That's a wrap!

The Fall Semester is a wrap... I finished posting grades online last night! I hope to be very diligent and adapt my syllabus for each of my Spring classes next week and then I can just enjoy the time off until classes begin again on January 20th.

Milly was delivered to me yesterday for a weekend of babysitting. Lola was thrilled (not really). I don't mind keeping Milly, but I do mind sleeping with Milly. Last time she visited, I decided that she was going to sleep in a kennel next to Lola...she screamed for an hour until I gave up. How could having Milly in bed really matter? After all, she only weighs 14 pounds, right? Well, you see, Milly has to be touching you. She won't just sleep at the end of the bed, she is right in the middle of the bed. So I spend the night contorting myself all around Milly! Not to mention the fact that I'm so afraid I'm going to roll over and smother her that I can barley sleep!

In addition to having difficulty sleeping because Milly is actually asleep in my bed, there is the other side of the coin...Milly not sleeping in my bed! Everyday that Milly is in the same house as Lola, is like Christmas Eve for Milly. Once you put Lola to bed in her kennel, all Milly wants to do is escape the bedroom to go look for Lola. She just won't go to sleep. Once she is asleep, she almost always wakes up at least one time during the night. Of course you have to go see if she has to go out and potty, but it almost always is just Milly thinking, "Is it morning yet? Can I go find Lola?". That was at 1:00 a.m. this morning. Luckily (and from experience, I do mean luckily), Milly slept in until 7:00 a.m. this morning. There was no convincing her, it was morning and Lola time! So Milly is thrilled and Lola and I are wondering what the heck to do at dark thirty on a Saturday morning!

Swiss Oatmeal {Copy Cat Recipe}

I'm obsessed with Swiss Oatmeal.  I particularly love  Corner Bakery's Swiss Oatmeal.  If you are not familiar with Swiss Oatmeal, it is a cold oatmeal cereal with fruit and nuts.

I've had a similar recipe for years, but it was only similar.  It wasn't close enough for my liking.  So I finally set out into the land of Pinterest to find a recipe that was a good Copy Cat.  I found a few, combined them and came up with what I think is a very close Copy Cat Recipe of Corner Bakery's Swiss Oatmeal.

Here's what I do (note, this recipe is really just pictures, because I don't really have measurements for these things.  The photos aren't great, but it's easier if I show you what I do)...

Here's the Phase 1ingredients... Milk Honey Yogurt (I use a vanilla greek yogurt) Oats (old fashioned, not quick...you probably could do steel cut too) I've simplified this to where you only need a bowl and a spoon for Phase 1 because I use my yogurt cup as a meas…

It's all about the dress...

I mean I guess it's really all about getting married, but come on, you always anticipate the dress right?  Well holy moly folks!  Today a big secret was released to the press.  No, we still don't know which dress or tiara Kate will be wearing, but we heard for the first time that Princess Diana had a back-up dress!  Here are some of the pictures and sketches...

Real dress on Left~ Back-up on the Right Here are the sketches of the back-up dress

And you know what?  I like the back-up dress better than the one she wore!  I know, I know.  I'm going to get blasted for saying that, but I'll just confess it right now... My name is Kara and I've never thought Princess Diana's dress was all that and a bag of chips.  Nope.  Not my favorite Royal Wedding Dress by any stretch of the imagination.  What is my favorite?  Probably the one that Sarah Ferguson wore when she married Andrew...
It had beautiful beading and stitching throughout.  Also on the train it had an "A&quo…

Pumpkins, Gourds & Flowers, oh my!

Yesterday, I went to the Dallas Arboretum.  Lisa, Jennifer, and I went as my birthday outing.  We got a late start due to some court delays, so we stopped for lunch first.  I needed some make-up too, so we went to Neimans.  We ogled some purses, had lunch, I got some make-up and then we headed out to the arboretum (in the rain).

It was raining pretty good on the way over, but luckily, we only needed umbrellas for a few minutes.  Thankfully the sun never came out, because it was so humid, I'm pretty sure we would have melted.

First, we made our way toward the Pumpkin Village...

I love how they made garland out of the mini-pumpkins...

These rose bushes were just stunning!  The roses on each bush varied in color from a coral, to a blush, to a purple hue...
It was Fall at the arboretum, and pumpkins, gourds, and mums are a large part of the visit.  However, they also have a Chihuly art exhibition going on.  I took so many pictures, I HAVE to make that it's whole separate post.  …
