S L O W L Y. . .

Slowly, I'm continuing to check off items from my "To Do" List. Here is today's progress:

I purchased and planted flowers in my front beds. I purchased these at a garden center out north of town. They usually have lots of flowers to choose from, but today the selection was not that great. Hopefully with a little water, these guys will perk up and look better. I bought three flats and am probably about 4 or 5 inpatients short. I will need to pick up a few more to finish planting around the tree.

I had hoped to purchase flowers to put in my pots, but they didn't have what a wanted. That is really just the story of my life! Nobody has everything I need! Why in today's superstore climate can we not get everything in one spot? Walmart has things that Target doesn't and of course the opposite is true too. I have to go to Market Street for things that neither Walmart or Target carry. You have to go to Lowes for some things, but then Home Depot for others... It never ends! Drives me nuts!

Well, today was the day... I broke down and turned on my air conditioner! Boy is it hot already! I would prefer the temps be about 10-15 degrees cooler. Alas, I believe summer is nipping at our heels!

Sadly, I too have turned on the AC! Probably I would not have and just suffered through it. However, my new house guest (Chris and Winston) begged me too.

Now when you finish there just come on over to Benbrook! I have a few planters that need help too!!!

Swiss Oatmeal {Copy Cat Recipe}

I'm obsessed with Swiss Oatmeal.  I particularly love  Corner Bakery's Swiss Oatmeal.  If you are not familiar with Swiss Oatmeal, it is a cold oatmeal cereal with fruit and nuts.

I've had a similar recipe for years, but it was only similar.  It wasn't close enough for my liking.  So I finally set out into the land of Pinterest to find a recipe that was a good Copy Cat.  I found a few, combined them and came up with what I think is a very close Copy Cat Recipe of Corner Bakery's Swiss Oatmeal.

Here's what I do (note, this recipe is really just pictures, because I don't really have measurements for these things.  The photos aren't great, but it's easier if I show you what I do)...

Here's the Phase 1ingredients... Milk Honey Yogurt (I use a vanilla greek yogurt) Oats (old fashioned, not quick...you probably could do steel cut too) I've simplified this to where you only need a bowl and a spoon for Phase 1 because I use my yogurt cup as a meas…

It's all about the dress...

I mean I guess it's really all about getting married, but come on, you always anticipate the dress right?  Well holy moly folks!  Today a big secret was released to the press.  No, we still don't know which dress or tiara Kate will be wearing, but we heard for the first time that Princess Diana had a back-up dress!  Here are some of the pictures and sketches...

Real dress on Left~ Back-up on the Right Here are the sketches of the back-up dress

And you know what?  I like the back-up dress better than the one she wore!  I know, I know.  I'm going to get blasted for saying that, but I'll just confess it right now... My name is Kara and I've never thought Princess Diana's dress was all that and a bag of chips.  Nope.  Not my favorite Royal Wedding Dress by any stretch of the imagination.  What is my favorite?  Probably the one that Sarah Ferguson wore when she married Andrew...
It had beautiful beading and stitching throughout.  Also on the train it had an "A&quo…

Pumpkins, Gourds & Flowers, oh my!

Yesterday, I went to the Dallas Arboretum.  Lisa, Jennifer, and I went as my birthday outing.  We got a late start due to some court delays, so we stopped for lunch first.  I needed some make-up too, so we went to Neimans.  We ogled some purses, had lunch, I got some make-up and then we headed out to the arboretum (in the rain).

It was raining pretty good on the way over, but luckily, we only needed umbrellas for a few minutes.  Thankfully the sun never came out, because it was so humid, I'm pretty sure we would have melted.

First, we made our way toward the Pumpkin Village...

I love how they made garland out of the mini-pumpkins...

These rose bushes were just stunning!  The roses on each bush varied in color from a coral, to a blush, to a purple hue...
It was Fall at the arboretum, and pumpkins, gourds, and mums are a large part of the visit.  However, they also have a Chihuly art exhibition going on.  I took so many pictures, I HAVE to make that it's whole separate post.  …
