Chores Galore!

Happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there!

I have taken great advantage of the cooler weather this weekend and tackled every chore that I have been putting off for the last couple of years. It wasn't really what I had planned on doing, but given temps in the 60's and 70's this weekend, I decided this might be the last opportunity to tackle these tasks without the horrible heat. It really has been chores galore around here!

I have been needing to complete a flower bed that I started 2 years ago. Yes, 2 year ago! I had bought a flat of monkey grass to plant and they were still sitting there unplanted. To explain, it got really hot and I lost interest that year, then it got kind of snaky looking and I had no desire to do it last year. The lawn crew kind of cleaned out the worst of it a month or so ago, so I decided to get it done. The poor plants were so root-bound that I had to cut the pots off of them!

Here is the finished product:
I also did some work in another flower bed in the back. This too was long over due.
I treated myself for all the hard work and spent the remainder of the afternoon enjoying the cool weather while reading in the back yard. I also harvested the first cutting of my mint plant and made a Latinopolitan to reward myself for checking two big items off my procrastination list!
Today I decided to continue to tackle the "To Do" list and clean out my horribly messy garage.

It's embarrassing, but here are two before photos (actually they make it look better than it was because I had already removed the trash bins)

I thought I was going to let Lola stay in the garage with me, but within minutes she had a tiny mouse pinned up in a corner, so she was banished to the house (and the mouse banished to the yard!). I have loaded my car with stuff for Goodwill and will need to throw some additional stuff away after the trash crew comes this week, but here is the mostly finished result...
I've still got a lot of crap in there, but it is better!
I actually found several things that I have been looking for. I located a lamp that I was wanting to put on the counter in my kitchen. I'm most excited about finding a lost phone! I got a new set of phones for Christmas two years ago. Not long after, I lost one of the phones. I have looked everywhere but had no luck...until today! I found it in the garage of all places!
I need to throw out some cans of paint. I heard someone say you aren't suppose to throw those away with the regular garbage. Does anyone know what you are suppose to do with these?

Just catching up on your blog....(I thought I had added it to my Google Reader, but I guess I didn't!).

I love your back patio--I want to come hang out there! Your chaise cushions are too cute!

You've been busy!! Everything looks great. I feel very lazy- you've been working!!

For paint disposal, I think you are suppose to call your local fire station to get info on the closest hazardous waste disposal center. I've heard that you can just let latex dry up and then throw it away, but you might want to check with the fire department on that.

Your yard is looking great. I cannot believe the size of those sweet potatoes. No wonder the other plant in there was not doing very well!

Swiss Oatmeal {Copy Cat Recipe}

I'm obsessed with Swiss Oatmeal.  I particularly love   Corner Bakery's Swiss Oatmeal.  If you are not familiar with Swiss Oatmeal, it is a cold oatmeal cereal with fruit and nuts. I've had a similar recipe for years, but it was only similar.  It wasn't close enough for my liking.  So I finally set out into the land of Pinterest to find a recipe that was a good Copy Cat.  I found a few, combined them and came up with what I think is a very close Copy Cat Recipe of Corner Bakery's Swiss Oatmeal. Here's what I do (note, this recipe is really just pictures, because I don't really have measurements for these things.  The photos aren't great, but it's easier if I show you what I do)... Here's the Phase 1 ingredients...   Milk Honey Yogurt (I use a vanilla greek yogurt) Oats (old fashioned, not quick...you probably could do steel cut too)    I've simplified this to where you only need a bowl and a spoon for Phase 1 becau

Europe 2023 {Day 9 ~ Munich & Bavarian Alps}

 On Tuesday, December 20th I grabbed breakfast at the hotel and then walked about 15 minutes to where I met my tour for the day.  On my first visit to Munich, I only had time for one "day trip" outside of the city and I chose to go to Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial, but I always knew I wanted to venture down to the Bavarian Alps and see some castles on my next visit.  I had booked the premium tour and it was so fancy.  There was a snack bar and they even served beer and wine on the way home after the last stop of the day.  First stop was at Linderhof Castle. This was a "small" castle of King Ludwig's that was a partial mini-replica of Versailles.  It was a snowy walk to the castle... Interior photos were not allowed, but you can see some pics of the interior HERE Like Versailles, there are fountains and sculptures surrounding Linderhof, but they cover the statues with wood huts to protect them from the winter elements. After visiting Linderhof, we made a (to

It's all about the dress...

I mean I guess it's really all about getting married, but come on, you always anticipate the dress right?  Well holy moly folks!  Today a big secret was released to the press.  No, we still don't know which dress or tiara Kate will be wearing, but we heard for the first time that Princess Diana had a back-up dress!  Here are some of the pictures and sketches... Real dress on Left~ Back-up on the Right Here are the sketches of the back-up dress And you know what?  I like the back-up dress better than the one she wore!  I know, I know.  I'm going to get blasted for saying that, but I'll just confess it right now... My name is Kara and I've never thought Princess Diana's dress was all that and a bag of chips.  Nope.  Not my favorite Royal Wedding Dress by any stretch of the imagination.  What is my favorite?  Probably the one that Sarah Ferguson wore when she married Andrew... It had beautiful beading and stitching throughout.  Also on the train it had an &quo
