Serious business to tend to

My law firm has some serious business to tend to today...a trip to Canton! A couple of weeks ago we discovered a miracle in our schedules with nothing scheduled for today. Jennifer and I usually go to Canton on Sunday, but have always wanted to go on a Friday and never had the chance. All was planned and we were psyched up to go, then Jennifer had a total brain breakdown and scheduled a hearing for this morning! After much ridicule and bitching (from me of course), we decided to still go after the hearing was completed.

The hearing didn't go as quickly as Jennifer anticipated, but was about on par with my expectations, so we got out of town about 10:45 or 11:00 this morning. One other small hiccup in the plans, Jennifer has possession of our co-owned Canton cart. In fairness to her, this was out of the norm as it usually lives in my garage. Well, of course, the cart got left at her house! You know at some point I was yelling, "Why are you sabotaging our trip to Canton?!". We decided to just purchase another cart once we got there because it would be 30-45 minutes out of the way to go by her house. It was great though! We got a new cart with movable front wheels (like a stroller has) that makes steering so much easier. We also sprung for a drink holder which is worth every darn penny!

We got lots of great finds and I will blog more tomorrow about them and will also blog about poor Lola's traumatic day (think fence guys showing up unexpectedly). I'm dirty, exhausted and want to watch one of my favorite hotties on Oprah on my DVR (Hugh Jackman), so I don't feel like blogging any longer. For now, I wanted to show you a few photos of funny things I ran across at Canton (bad phone camera photos, but you can get the point).

I saw this shirt and immediately thought of my friend Lisa! Nothing wrong with that though, it's actually a pretty good mantra!
In case you couldn't make out the saying on the t-shirt, it says "Never underestimate the value of a hissy fit..."
This was a note pad I found somewhere. I didn't purchase it, but thought it should be my new slogan (especially after I spent so much money today)!
And speaking of not being flat busted...
Where do you think they got this mannequin? If this is her day job, what do you think she does once the sun goes down?

Waiting to hear what you found! I didn't make it out today, but I think that was a good thing with the storms we are having. Planning on it next month when Andi is here.

Swiss Oatmeal {Copy Cat Recipe}

I'm obsessed with Swiss Oatmeal.  I particularly love  Corner Bakery's Swiss Oatmeal.  If you are not familiar with Swiss Oatmeal, it is a cold oatmeal cereal with fruit and nuts.

I've had a similar recipe for years, but it was only similar.  It wasn't close enough for my liking.  So I finally set out into the land of Pinterest to find a recipe that was a good Copy Cat.  I found a few, combined them and came up with what I think is a very close Copy Cat Recipe of Corner Bakery's Swiss Oatmeal.

Here's what I do (note, this recipe is really just pictures, because I don't really have measurements for these things.  The photos aren't great, but it's easier if I show you what I do)...

Here's the Phase 1ingredients... Milk Honey Yogurt (I use a vanilla greek yogurt) Oats (old fashioned, not quick...you probably could do steel cut too) I've simplified this to where you only need a bowl and a spoon for Phase 1 because I use my yogurt cup as a meas…

It's all about the dress...

I mean I guess it's really all about getting married, but come on, you always anticipate the dress right?  Well holy moly folks!  Today a big secret was released to the press.  No, we still don't know which dress or tiara Kate will be wearing, but we heard for the first time that Princess Diana had a back-up dress!  Here are some of the pictures and sketches...

Real dress on Left~ Back-up on the Right Here are the sketches of the back-up dress

And you know what?  I like the back-up dress better than the one she wore!  I know, I know.  I'm going to get blasted for saying that, but I'll just confess it right now... My name is Kara and I've never thought Princess Diana's dress was all that and a bag of chips.  Nope.  Not my favorite Royal Wedding Dress by any stretch of the imagination.  What is my favorite?  Probably the one that Sarah Ferguson wore when she married Andrew...
It had beautiful beading and stitching throughout.  Also on the train it had an "A&quo…

Pumpkins, Gourds & Flowers, oh my!

Yesterday, I went to the Dallas Arboretum.  Lisa, Jennifer, and I went as my birthday outing.  We got a late start due to some court delays, so we stopped for lunch first.  I needed some make-up too, so we went to Neimans.  We ogled some purses, had lunch, I got some make-up and then we headed out to the arboretum (in the rain).

It was raining pretty good on the way over, but luckily, we only needed umbrellas for a few minutes.  Thankfully the sun never came out, because it was so humid, I'm pretty sure we would have melted.

First, we made our way toward the Pumpkin Village...

I love how they made garland out of the mini-pumpkins...

These rose bushes were just stunning!  The roses on each bush varied in color from a coral, to a blush, to a purple hue...
It was Fall at the arboretum, and pumpkins, gourds, and mums are a large part of the visit.  However, they also have a Chihuly art exhibition going on.  I took so many pictures, I HAVE to make that it's whole separate post.  …
