Pioneer Woman!

Yesterday was the long awaited Pioneer Woman book signing in Dallas. We discovered the day before that Borders was going to give out wrist bands beginning at 9 a.m. and they would be color coded. You would then be called up for the signing depending on your color.

So, now that there was wrist band hysteria going through our group, I headed to Dallas a little earlier than planned and picked up one wrist band at 10:30. The lady that handed out that wrist band was quite the curmudgeon. She didn't want to give me one because I wasn't buying the cookbook. I told her I already had one. She said I should have brought my receipt showing that I purchased it at Borders (since when is that a requirement to attend?) but reluctantly gave me one.

I then went to pick up Abby at the airport. We had a yummy lunch at Houston's and then headed back to Border's for more wristbands. Abby purchased 3 books, and asked for 3 bands and was given them. The lady checking out next to us, declined her wrist band, so we took her's too. Now were were cooking with fire...Enough wrist bands for all of us!

We arrived back at Border's about 6:00. When we got there, the gold group (first 100 people) was lined up. Not long after we arrived, they called for the red group (that was us...the second 100 people) to line up. We quickly did and were about 107 in line at that point. The signing started at 7:00. We stood in line, then sat in line, then played games like what is the craziest thing in your purse to pass the time. Here are some shots of us all in line...

Courtney and me...

Suzanna and Abby...

The four of us displaying our books...

Then finally about 8:20, we reached the front of the line! It was like finding the Holy Grail! Ree close enough to touch!

The Border's guy took over my camera and took a photo of us. I'm not crazy about it, but hopefully Courtney got some better pics that she will send me when she gets back to Lubbock, so check back later for more photos...

Ree brought her daughters with her and they were handing out the fabulous free t-shirts...

I think the natives were getting restless by this point, and who could blame them. Poor girls have now lost all innocence--they had no idea there were this many crazy people in the world! I'm sure they have seen nothing like it on their Oklahoma ranch.

Poor Suzanna got stuck with our stack of books!

Mateo! Marlboro Man's cousin Mateo and his wife Teresa were there.

He walked right in front of us and Courtney says "Mateo!" and then snaps his photo close up with her large fancy schmancy camera. I think he was very very frightened and I cannot wait to see that photo! I was laughing too hard to get a close-up photo at that point.

Our whole group with our freebie t's...

Here are some close-ups of the oh-so-adorable (but tiny in size) t-shirts...

the back...

So how many people turned out? I'm not sure of the actual number, but I do know that they were on the Silver wrist band when we got there which was the 800 group. Yep, 800! I just saw Ree on the local morning show and she said she was there until 2:00 a.m. signing cookbooks! Ree rocks! I cannot imagine how bad her hand must hurt today and how sore her cheeks are from smiling for that many hours! What a trooper!
It was a great party and we all had a blast!

Swiss Oatmeal {Copy Cat Recipe}

I'm obsessed with Swiss Oatmeal.  I particularly love   Corner Bakery's Swiss Oatmeal.  If you are not familiar with Swiss Oatmeal, it is a cold oatmeal cereal with fruit and nuts. I've had a similar recipe for years, but it was only similar.  It wasn't close enough for my liking.  So I finally set out into the land of Pinterest to find a recipe that was a good Copy Cat.  I found a few, combined them and came up with what I think is a very close Copy Cat Recipe of Corner Bakery's Swiss Oatmeal. Here's what I do (note, this recipe is really just pictures, because I don't really have measurements for these things.  The photos aren't great, but it's easier if I show you what I do)... Here's the Phase 1 ingredients...   Milk Honey Yogurt (I use a vanilla greek yogurt) Oats (old fashioned, not quick...you probably could do steel cut too)    I've simplified this to where you only need a bowl and a spoon for Phase 1 becau

Europe 2023 {Day 9 ~ Munich & Bavarian Alps}

 On Tuesday, December 20th I grabbed breakfast at the hotel and then walked about 15 minutes to where I met my tour for the day.  On my first visit to Munich, I only had time for one "day trip" outside of the city and I chose to go to Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial, but I always knew I wanted to venture down to the Bavarian Alps and see some castles on my next visit.  I had booked the premium tour and it was so fancy.  There was a snack bar and they even served beer and wine on the way home after the last stop of the day.  First stop was at Linderhof Castle. This was a "small" castle of King Ludwig's that was a partial mini-replica of Versailles.  It was a snowy walk to the castle... Interior photos were not allowed, but you can see some pics of the interior HERE Like Versailles, there are fountains and sculptures surrounding Linderhof, but they cover the statues with wood huts to protect them from the winter elements. After visiting Linderhof, we made a (to

It's all about the dress...

I mean I guess it's really all about getting married, but come on, you always anticipate the dress right?  Well holy moly folks!  Today a big secret was released to the press.  No, we still don't know which dress or tiara Kate will be wearing, but we heard for the first time that Princess Diana had a back-up dress!  Here are some of the pictures and sketches... Real dress on Left~ Back-up on the Right Here are the sketches of the back-up dress And you know what?  I like the back-up dress better than the one she wore!  I know, I know.  I'm going to get blasted for saying that, but I'll just confess it right now... My name is Kara and I've never thought Princess Diana's dress was all that and a bag of chips.  Nope.  Not my favorite Royal Wedding Dress by any stretch of the imagination.  What is my favorite?  Probably the one that Sarah Ferguson wore when she married Andrew... It had beautiful beading and stitching throughout.  Also on the train it had an &quo
