Whew...TGIF & THE WINNER

TGIF

TGIF! It hasn't been an immensely busy week, but I sure feel like it has! Maybe it is because this is the first FULL week of school- 3 classes on 3 nights. Whatever the cause, I'm excited to have a couple of days with NOTHING to do! Today actually is busy, so if I can just make it through, I have big plans for movies and cooking.

My movie plans include knocking out my 3 netflix DVDs. They are 3 that I'm very excited about too! I still have to watch "Inglorious Basterds" and now have "Bright Star" which I've been dying to see for months and "The Hurt Locker".

My cooking plans include cooking a beef and veggie stir fry (recipe from The Deen Bros. "Take It Easy" cookbook) and try out my new rice cooker/steamer that came in this week (yea!). I also plan to cook a pork roast for pulled pork. I figure I can make tacos and bbq sandwiches with it. I'm going to cook it in the crock pot with tomatillos, onions, garlic, cilantro, and lime juice on top. We'll see how that all turns out.

There is a real chance the pork will go very wrong. I have lots of trouble cooking pork because I hate the way it feels. It totally grosses me out! Usually, if I actually manage to get to the "it's done" stage of the cooking process, then I'm so grossed out I cannot even eat it! I really hate dealing with meat...period...end of story. Odd I know since I LOVE my steak "cold rare". I'm a mystery to figure out, I know! But honestly, I'm most grossed out by pork, with hamburger meat running a close second.

I bought a pork roast. It was the first roast I have ever bought in my life. I was torn between shoulder and butt. I settled on the one that says "Butt Shoulder". I don't think it is suppose to really say "Butt Shoulder." I'm no expert in Pig anatomy, but I don't think the Butt is anywhere near the Shoulder. But as it seemed to solve my dilemma, it's what I bought! Truth be known, I think it is a butt.

I'll report back on my weekend of staying in (it's suppose to be cold), watching movies and cooking up a storm.

Oh and I hesitate to write this, as I can imagine a certain group of people who will be lining up outside my front door immediately upon reading this, but I'm feeling a cookie mood coming on and just may make some valentines day cookies!

Now, without further delay about my boring life, it's time to announce the winner of the Rice Cooker/Steamer Giveaway contest...

There were 17 entries and according to Random.org, the winner is #4- Courtney! Yeah Courtney! And p.s., I don't think it is odd that you like the cemeteries in NOLA. I think they are beautiful too! Thanks for entering everyone. I love getting stuff and giving stuff, so I had fun with it!

Darn it I think I was number five. Ekks!! So jealous!!

I have a good rub for your butt shoulder. I also hate cooking pork. I may actually give it up just because of the cooking process. I cooked mine in the slower cooker, far better results than the one i tried to cook in the stove!!

You know my address, send me some cookies! Thank you!

If you have extra cookies you can always drop them off at MSU. Don loves cookies and I am just not much of a baker.

Congratulations Courtney.

Swiss Oatmeal {Copy Cat Recipe}

I'm obsessed with Swiss Oatmeal.  I particularly love   Corner Bakery's Swiss Oatmeal.  If you are not familiar with Swiss Oatmeal, it is a cold oatmeal cereal with fruit and nuts. I've had a similar recipe for years, but it was only similar.  It wasn't close enough for my liking.  So I finally set out into the land of Pinterest to find a recipe that was a good Copy Cat.  I found a few, combined them and came up with what I think is a very close Copy Cat Recipe of Corner Bakery's Swiss Oatmeal. Here's what I do (note, this recipe is really just pictures, because I don't really have measurements for these things.  The photos aren't great, but it's easier if I show you what I do)... Here's the Phase 1 ingredients...   Milk Honey Yogurt (I use a vanilla greek yogurt) Oats (old fashioned, not quick...you probably could do steel cut too)    I've simplified this to where you only need a bowl and a spoon for Phase 1 becau

Europe 2023 {Day 9 ~ Munich & Bavarian Alps}

 On Tuesday, December 20th I grabbed breakfast at the hotel and then walked about 15 minutes to where I met my tour for the day.  On my first visit to Munich, I only had time for one "day trip" outside of the city and I chose to go to Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial, but I always knew I wanted to venture down to the Bavarian Alps and see some castles on my next visit.  I had booked the premium tour and it was so fancy.  There was a snack bar and they even served beer and wine on the way home after the last stop of the day.  First stop was at Linderhof Castle. This was a "small" castle of King Ludwig's that was a partial mini-replica of Versailles.  It was a snowy walk to the castle... Interior photos were not allowed, but you can see some pics of the interior HERE Like Versailles, there are fountains and sculptures surrounding Linderhof, but they cover the statues with wood huts to protect them from the winter elements. After visiting Linderhof, we made a (to

It's all about the dress...

I mean I guess it's really all about getting married, but come on, you always anticipate the dress right?  Well holy moly folks!  Today a big secret was released to the press.  No, we still don't know which dress or tiara Kate will be wearing, but we heard for the first time that Princess Diana had a back-up dress!  Here are some of the pictures and sketches... Real dress on Left~ Back-up on the Right Here are the sketches of the back-up dress And you know what?  I like the back-up dress better than the one she wore!  I know, I know.  I'm going to get blasted for saying that, but I'll just confess it right now... My name is Kara and I've never thought Princess Diana's dress was all that and a bag of chips.  Nope.  Not my favorite Royal Wedding Dress by any stretch of the imagination.  What is my favorite?  Probably the one that Sarah Ferguson wore when she married Andrew... It had beautiful beading and stitching throughout.  Also on the train it had an &quo
