Slacking

I'm being such a slacker! I have some good photos from our weekend fun in Austin, but I haven't had the time (or maybe energy) to pull them off the camera and blog all about it.

I wish I didn't have to teach class tonight so that I could post, but I've got 36 students waiting on me...

I'm not going to do it when I get home because I have to GET TO BED! I am working at a poling place for one of my friends, Lance Baxter, who is a candidate for a bench here. So I will be there from 7 to 7 tomorrow wearing my "Lance Baxter t-shirt," holding a sign and telling everyone who passes that we would appreciate their vote for Lance, the most qualified candidate. I've roped Jennifer into this as well and she will be holding a sign for another friend, Keith Gore, who is also up for a bench.

12 hours! I'm a little worried about having the stamina to make it 12 hours to tell you the truth. I'm even more worried about having the energy to party hop after all that. If I were a betting person, I would bet that I end up watching the results from the comfort of my couch (and/or bed) and won't do much party hopping!

If you live in Texas, don't forget to vote (unless you are planning to vote for Rick Perry...kidding, just kidding...kind-of :)!

I'm slacking too. Maybe we played too hard this weekend. I've been tired all day.

12 hours sound terrible. I hope your next door to a good resteraunt for potty breaks and snacks! I still have to vote. Promise I won't be adding to Rick's talley!

ugh--i hate talking politics! not because i don't have my thoughts and opinions, but politics always becomes so touchy.

with that being said, though, i have early voted and i can assure you that i did not vote for KBH. there's no way in hell i want CRAIG JAMES getting that senate seat! great reasoning, huh? :)

Swiss Oatmeal {Copy Cat Recipe}

I'm obsessed with Swiss Oatmeal.  I particularly love  Corner Bakery's Swiss Oatmeal.  If you are not familiar with Swiss Oatmeal, it is a cold oatmeal cereal with fruit and nuts.

I've had a similar recipe for years, but it was only similar.  It wasn't close enough for my liking.  So I finally set out into the land of Pinterest to find a recipe that was a good Copy Cat.  I found a few, combined them and came up with what I think is a very close Copy Cat Recipe of Corner Bakery's Swiss Oatmeal.

Here's what I do (note, this recipe is really just pictures, because I don't really have measurements for these things.  The photos aren't great, but it's easier if I show you what I do)...

Here's the Phase 1ingredients... Milk Honey Yogurt (I use a vanilla greek yogurt) Oats (old fashioned, not quick...you probably could do steel cut too) I've simplified this to where you only need a bowl and a spoon for Phase 1 because I use my yogurt cup as a meas…

It's all about the dress...

I mean I guess it's really all about getting married, but come on, you always anticipate the dress right?  Well holy moly folks!  Today a big secret was released to the press.  No, we still don't know which dress or tiara Kate will be wearing, but we heard for the first time that Princess Diana had a back-up dress!  Here are some of the pictures and sketches...

Real dress on Left~ Back-up on the Right Here are the sketches of the back-up dress

And you know what?  I like the back-up dress better than the one she wore!  I know, I know.  I'm going to get blasted for saying that, but I'll just confess it right now... My name is Kara and I've never thought Princess Diana's dress was all that and a bag of chips.  Nope.  Not my favorite Royal Wedding Dress by any stretch of the imagination.  What is my favorite?  Probably the one that Sarah Ferguson wore when she married Andrew...
It had beautiful beading and stitching throughout.  Also on the train it had an "A&quo…

Pumpkins, Gourds & Flowers, oh my!

Yesterday, I went to the Dallas Arboretum.  Lisa, Jennifer, and I went as my birthday outing.  We got a late start due to some court delays, so we stopped for lunch first.  I needed some make-up too, so we went to Neimans.  We ogled some purses, had lunch, I got some make-up and then we headed out to the arboretum (in the rain).

It was raining pretty good on the way over, but luckily, we only needed umbrellas for a few minutes.  Thankfully the sun never came out, because it was so humid, I'm pretty sure we would have melted.

First, we made our way toward the Pumpkin Village...

I love how they made garland out of the mini-pumpkins...

These rose bushes were just stunning!  The roses on each bush varied in color from a coral, to a blush, to a purple hue...
It was Fall at the arboretum, and pumpkins, gourds, and mums are a large part of the visit.  However, they also have a Chihuly art exhibition going on.  I took so many pictures, I HAVE to make that it's whole separate post.  …
