Being the Type A personality that I am, I love lists and love checking off lists. Sometimes, I write stupid simple tasks on a list just so I can check off more things.
So I've got this vacation coming up. You know, the one that I spent all of about 5 minutes planning before booking a room. The one that I had no idea how I was going to spend my days or what activities were going to occupy my time. For a minute or two, I thought, "What in the holy heck have you signed up for?", but then I considered the lists...
List 1: The list of States that I've visited~ I will get to add two to that list! Arizona, obviously, but it turns out that one of the days I"ll be traveling up to Page, Arizona and will be less than 10 miles from Utah. I've never been to Utah, so why not cross over that state line and check off another state, just like I do when I add some small task to my "to do list".
After this trip I will have visited: Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Maine, Massachusetts, Mississippi, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Texas, Utah, & Virginia. 22 states. Almost half way there!
List 2: 15 places kids should see before 15~ Yes, it's a little late to try and fulfill this list, but we've established I'm type A right? Anyway, with the visit to the Grand Canyon on this trip, I will be up to having seen 6 of the 15. Kind of pathetic, but at least it's one closer!
List 3: 1000 Places to See Before You Die~ I have had this book for several years. First thing I did upon receiving this one Christmas? I got a pen and started checking off (and dating) the places I've already seen. I was ecstatic when I pulled out the book the other night, flipped to the United States section, then to the Arizona section, and discovered that there are 3 (and possibly up to 4) places that I can check off of this list! I will see Red Rock Country, The Grand Canyon & Lake Powell, but I could also possibly hit up the Arizona Biltmore.
So lists make me happy. This vacation has already made me happy in that I know there will be check marks going on the list at the end of it all.
Just as an aside. I cut up an avocado for supper. You got to give it to me, it's a gutsy move! A vacation in sight and I cut up an avocado!
