A prOject on the horizon

There is a prOject on the horizon (see, I typed that out so that you would say prOject in your head just as if Sarah Richardson herself was saying it with her Toronto-Canadian accent instead of my American accent).

The prOject will take place in my master bedroom and bath.  The bedroom is NOT in for a major overhaul, thank the Lord.  I'm still happy with all that I did back a year and a half ago, but there have been a couple of things that I thought needed a tweak and so I brought in an interior decorator to tell me whether or not some of my ideas were crazy or a must-do prOject.

The bathroom, well, that's another story.  It's in for as big an overhaul as I can tackle on my own.  I'd still love to tear out the shower and start over, but that's not in my budget right now.

I'm sharing some before pics of both rooms.

Can you figure out from the angle of the photos, what's in store for the bedroom?
(ignore the fan...it's part of the ugly truth that is summer in Texas)

Kathleen, the decorator, suggested switching this mirror from horizontal to vertical, which was exactly the answer.  Of course, it is just sitting there right now, but it will be hung up eventually.  We are both on the look out for some sconces to go on each side.  This picture that I took down is getting a new home in the bathroom...
These aren't true before photos.
As you might spy, there are some paint swatches painted up on the wall...
and you might catch a glimpse of my recent "mirror prOject"...
Anyone want to come for a painting party?

So excited to see the completed projects and your paint colors. I love to play Sarah Richardson, so just let me know when you decide to paint and I'll see if I can make it!

Swiss Oatmeal {Copy Cat Recipe}

I'm obsessed with Swiss Oatmeal.  I particularly love  Corner Bakery's Swiss Oatmeal.  If you are not familiar with Swiss Oatmeal, it is a cold oatmeal cereal with fruit and nuts.

I've had a similar recipe for years, but it was only similar.  It wasn't close enough for my liking.  So I finally set out into the land of Pinterest to find a recipe that was a good Copy Cat.  I found a few, combined them and came up with what I think is a very close Copy Cat Recipe of Corner Bakery's Swiss Oatmeal.

Here's what I do (note, this recipe is really just pictures, because I don't really have measurements for these things.  The photos aren't great, but it's easier if I show you what I do)...

Here's the Phase 1ingredients... Milk Honey Yogurt (I use a vanilla greek yogurt) Oats (old fashioned, not quick...you probably could do steel cut too) I've simplified this to where you only need a bowl and a spoon for Phase 1 because I use my yogurt cup as a meas…

It's all about the dress...

I mean I guess it's really all about getting married, but come on, you always anticipate the dress right?  Well holy moly folks!  Today a big secret was released to the press.  No, we still don't know which dress or tiara Kate will be wearing, but we heard for the first time that Princess Diana had a back-up dress!  Here are some of the pictures and sketches...

Real dress on Left~ Back-up on the Right Here are the sketches of the back-up dress

And you know what?  I like the back-up dress better than the one she wore!  I know, I know.  I'm going to get blasted for saying that, but I'll just confess it right now... My name is Kara and I've never thought Princess Diana's dress was all that and a bag of chips.  Nope.  Not my favorite Royal Wedding Dress by any stretch of the imagination.  What is my favorite?  Probably the one that Sarah Ferguson wore when she married Andrew...
It had beautiful beading and stitching throughout.  Also on the train it had an "A&quo…

Pumpkins, Gourds & Flowers, oh my!

Yesterday, I went to the Dallas Arboretum.  Lisa, Jennifer, and I went as my birthday outing.  We got a late start due to some court delays, so we stopped for lunch first.  I needed some make-up too, so we went to Neimans.  We ogled some purses, had lunch, I got some make-up and then we headed out to the arboretum (in the rain).

It was raining pretty good on the way over, but luckily, we only needed umbrellas for a few minutes.  Thankfully the sun never came out, because it was so humid, I'm pretty sure we would have melted.

First, we made our way toward the Pumpkin Village...

I love how they made garland out of the mini-pumpkins...

These rose bushes were just stunning!  The roses on each bush varied in color from a coral, to a blush, to a purple hue...
It was Fall at the arboretum, and pumpkins, gourds, and mums are a large part of the visit.  However, they also have a Chihuly art exhibition going on.  I took so many pictures, I HAVE to make that it's whole separate post.  …
