2011 Decorations {Part 3}

As I mentioned in my earlier post, I've been trying to post this for several days.  The first hold-up was that my Grandma got put into the hospital again last week, so I spent the latter part of last week at the hospital with her.  Then blogger decided to be difficult and I put it on the back burner until after Christmas.  Then on Christmas eve, I fell (just call me twinkle toes) and I sprained my knee and ankle, so after I got home on Christmas evening, I just parked myself on the couch for two days with my leg elevated and iced (much to Lola's delight).

So I finally decided to tackle this post again today, but blogger was still giving me some trouble.  I decided I would not be defeated and did this post in a very difficult manner, but heck, at least I FINALLY got it done!

Without further ado, here is the final post of Decorations 2011.  I think I should have made this two posts (lots of pics!), but I didn't, so here we go.

Let's start with my Kitchen.  I have several small things here and there in the kitchen.  I have a cute spoon rest that I love and this year I added some Spode hot pan holders...

My Spode Christmas dishes are always a big part of the "Kitchen Decor"...

I always put this Santa in the kitchen...

In the breakfast room, I have several things...

This countdown calendar...

These plates hang by the back door...

and of course a tree...

I like the bright tree skirt...

This tree is filled with all sorts of random ornaments.  Ornaments from trips, like this one from this year's trip to the Grand Canyon...

and Sedona...

Puerto Vallarta...

or this one which was purchased at the gift shop in Westminster Abbey...

or at the Waterford store in Ireland...
I was actually thinking about getting another tree for the dining room and making it a "Tree of Travels", but the thought of putting up a 5th tree makes me a little crazy!

Naturally, the kitchen tree is filled with lots of food ornaments...

including the topper which looks like a large (pink!) snowflake cookie...

It also has lots of ornaments that I have been collecting for years.  I especially love these yarn people...

This tree is just a fun little tree complete with colorful vintagy bubble lights.

In the living room, I have the mantle decorated with a piece I made last year (not sure it's going to make another appearance next year, so take a good look), and stockings that I'm not crazy about.

The tree is covered almost entirely of blown glass ornaments...
at night...

mostly Christopher Radko or Old World Christmas ornaments like these...

I also have a nativity on a table in the living area...

My coffee table isn't great (please ignore the fall bowl of potpourri),

but I added these bright and shiny mason jar candle holders this year.

That's about it for the Kitchen and Living Room decorations.  I thought I was never going to get everything up this year, so I don't even want to think about taking it all down!

Wow. Your decorations always just blow me away. I especially love the blown ornament tree; it is beautiful in pictures, but I bet it is stunning in person!

I'm so sorry to hear about all your trips to the hospital and hope that everyone is recovering well.

And, in response to your comment on my blog, I can't believe I made it 23 years without a wedding either! It wasn't even a wedding for people I knew - I had to make it as a date! sheesh. With all the engagements in the air, I think it's about time someone I knew got married already.

Have a great start to 2012!

Swiss Oatmeal {Copy Cat Recipe}

I'm obsessed with Swiss Oatmeal.  I particularly love   Corner Bakery's Swiss Oatmeal.  If you are not familiar with Swiss Oatmeal, it is a cold oatmeal cereal with fruit and nuts. I've had a similar recipe for years, but it was only similar.  It wasn't close enough for my liking.  So I finally set out into the land of Pinterest to find a recipe that was a good Copy Cat.  I found a few, combined them and came up with what I think is a very close Copy Cat Recipe of Corner Bakery's Swiss Oatmeal. Here's what I do (note, this recipe is really just pictures, because I don't really have measurements for these things.  The photos aren't great, but it's easier if I show you what I do)... Here's the Phase 1 ingredients...   Milk Honey Yogurt (I use a vanilla greek yogurt) Oats (old fashioned, not quick...you probably could do steel cut too)    I've simplified this to where you only need a bowl and a spoon for Phase 1 becau

Europe 2023 {Day 9 ~ Munich & Bavarian Alps}

 On Tuesday, December 20th I grabbed breakfast at the hotel and then walked about 15 minutes to where I met my tour for the day.  On my first visit to Munich, I only had time for one "day trip" outside of the city and I chose to go to Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial, but I always knew I wanted to venture down to the Bavarian Alps and see some castles on my next visit.  I had booked the premium tour and it was so fancy.  There was a snack bar and they even served beer and wine on the way home after the last stop of the day.  First stop was at Linderhof Castle. This was a "small" castle of King Ludwig's that was a partial mini-replica of Versailles.  It was a snowy walk to the castle... Interior photos were not allowed, but you can see some pics of the interior HERE Like Versailles, there are fountains and sculptures surrounding Linderhof, but they cover the statues with wood huts to protect them from the winter elements. After visiting Linderhof, we made a (to

It's all about the dress...

I mean I guess it's really all about getting married, but come on, you always anticipate the dress right?  Well holy moly folks!  Today a big secret was released to the press.  No, we still don't know which dress or tiara Kate will be wearing, but we heard for the first time that Princess Diana had a back-up dress!  Here are some of the pictures and sketches... Real dress on Left~ Back-up on the Right Here are the sketches of the back-up dress And you know what?  I like the back-up dress better than the one she wore!  I know, I know.  I'm going to get blasted for saying that, but I'll just confess it right now... My name is Kara and I've never thought Princess Diana's dress was all that and a bag of chips.  Nope.  Not my favorite Royal Wedding Dress by any stretch of the imagination.  What is my favorite?  Probably the one that Sarah Ferguson wore when she married Andrew... It had beautiful beading and stitching throughout.  Also on the train it had an &quo
