Seattle/Victoria Trip {Day One}

Seattle has been on my radar for about 18 months as my next big trip.  I mentioned this to my friend Suzanna and she said if I could wait until this year, she'd go with me.  So we've been planning our adventure to the great northwest, and finally got to go last week.  It was a wonderful trip.  Get ready for picture overload over the next several posts.  I took about 1100 photos on my camera, plus many on my iphone and instagram.

She flew in on Southwest on Monday night and I picked her up at the airport at about 10 p.m.  We didn't get much sleep because we had an early flight to Seattle on Tuesday morning.

Our first stop in Seattle was the butter London salon in the airport.  We had to purchase some polish of course.  If we hadn't had checked luggage that we needed to go collect, I'm afraid we might have spent half of the day there!  I got the new limited edition called "Pitter Patter" in honor of the new royal baby.

We took a towncar from SeaTac to our hotel because that is actually cheaper than a taxi.

As you will discover, we stayed at several hotels on this trip...3 different hotels over the 5 nights.
The Edgewater was our home away from home for the first two nights.  It is the only truly waterfront hotel in Seattle.

The lobby is beautiful with a northwest cabin theme.

The views from the lobby are amazing.

Our room was nice too.

We didn't pay for a waterview room, but we got a view of the Space Needle from our room.

We quickly headed over to the Pike Place Market area.  We had a late lunch at La Panier.

La Panier is a gorgeous french bakery

We ended up splitting a few goodies

We got macarons to go, which we ended up hauling to Canada.

The flowers were probably my favorite part of the market.
I just couldn't get over how beautiful and cheap the flowers were.
If I lived in Seattle, I'm pretty sure that I would have fresh flowers in my house all of the time.

I wish that this was scratch and sniff, because these forget-me-nots smelled heavenly!

The food options really made me wish that I had a kitchen close by so that I could cook.

The original Starbucks

We decided to go back to the hotel and enjoy a cocktail from the patio of Six Seven, the hotel's restaurant, since it had such stunning views.
It was very relaxing.  Except for a giant bird almost taking me out.  Good grief~ I wish I had a picture of that!
Apparently, it is not the norm to be able to see Mt. Rainier from Seattle (due to the usual cloud cover), but we had a great view every single day.
The Olympic Mountains across the sound.
We had dinner reservations at Shuckers in the Fairmont Olympic Hotel.
 I loved all the fresh seafood options.
I couldn't make up my mind, so I ordered the seafood grill which gives you a small portion of Halibut, Salmon, Prawns, and a Scallop.  It came with crab mac-and-cheese and asparagus.  It was excellent!

We had planned to hit up Chihuly Gardens and the Space Needle after dinner, but we were so tired, we decided to call it an early night.  Stay tuned for more...

I've been wondering where you've been! I am so jealous you were in Seattle -- I have a friend out there and am contemplating whether or not I can go after the bar. That market looks like fun! I love places like that. I would have been tempted by those flowers and that seafood! Yum!! I'm looking forward to reading about the rest of your trip!

Oohh I was just at La Panier in the market on Thursday and I took some macarons to some friends I was visiting in Cali. Their macarons are SO delicious. Mm!

The flowers in the Market are my favorite part too (and the seafood, and the baked goods... ok, maybe it's a tie? ha).

And ohhh my gosh, that crab mac and cheese in the last picture looks SO AMAZING! Yum.

Swiss Oatmeal {Copy Cat Recipe}

I'm obsessed with Swiss Oatmeal.  I particularly love   Corner Bakery's Swiss Oatmeal.  If you are not familiar with Swiss Oatmeal, it is a cold oatmeal cereal with fruit and nuts. I've had a similar recipe for years, but it was only similar.  It wasn't close enough for my liking.  So I finally set out into the land of Pinterest to find a recipe that was a good Copy Cat.  I found a few, combined them and came up with what I think is a very close Copy Cat Recipe of Corner Bakery's Swiss Oatmeal. Here's what I do (note, this recipe is really just pictures, because I don't really have measurements for these things.  The photos aren't great, but it's easier if I show you what I do)... Here's the Phase 1 ingredients...   Milk Honey Yogurt (I use a vanilla greek yogurt) Oats (old fashioned, not quick...you probably could do steel cut too)    I've simplified this to where you only need a bowl and a spoon for Phase 1 becau

Europe 2023 {Day 9 ~ Munich & Bavarian Alps}

 On Tuesday, December 20th I grabbed breakfast at the hotel and then walked about 15 minutes to where I met my tour for the day.  On my first visit to Munich, I only had time for one "day trip" outside of the city and I chose to go to Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial, but I always knew I wanted to venture down to the Bavarian Alps and see some castles on my next visit.  I had booked the premium tour and it was so fancy.  There was a snack bar and they even served beer and wine on the way home after the last stop of the day.  First stop was at Linderhof Castle. This was a "small" castle of King Ludwig's that was a partial mini-replica of Versailles.  It was a snowy walk to the castle... Interior photos were not allowed, but you can see some pics of the interior HERE Like Versailles, there are fountains and sculptures surrounding Linderhof, but they cover the statues with wood huts to protect them from the winter elements. After visiting Linderhof, we made a (to

It's all about the dress...

I mean I guess it's really all about getting married, but come on, you always anticipate the dress right?  Well holy moly folks!  Today a big secret was released to the press.  No, we still don't know which dress or tiara Kate will be wearing, but we heard for the first time that Princess Diana had a back-up dress!  Here are some of the pictures and sketches... Real dress on Left~ Back-up on the Right Here are the sketches of the back-up dress And you know what?  I like the back-up dress better than the one she wore!  I know, I know.  I'm going to get blasted for saying that, but I'll just confess it right now... My name is Kara and I've never thought Princess Diana's dress was all that and a bag of chips.  Nope.  Not my favorite Royal Wedding Dress by any stretch of the imagination.  What is my favorite?  Probably the one that Sarah Ferguson wore when she married Andrew... It had beautiful beading and stitching throughout.  Also on the train it had an &quo
