Friday Five

I often see Friday Five on blogs, so today I'm jumping on the bandwagon, if for no other reason, than to give some organization to my all-over-the-place thoughts for the day.

{1} Movies

I can't recall the last time I went to see a movie.  There have been several over the past couple of months that I've wanted to go see, but with summer school, and then my fall semester starting (complete with weekend express class), I just never got there.

Today, I got up, got a bit of work done, and headed out to the Angelika in Plano to see "Enough Said".  I went to the 10 a.m. showing.  It seemed best to go before too much came up to get in the way, or I decided I was just too tired to go.  I really enjoyed it, but I couldn't shake the sadness over it being some of the last work of James Gandolfini that we will see.

I also really want to see "Austenland".  I've read the book, and I'm all about all-things-Austen.

There were also several good previews that I think showed good movies.  I say "I think" because two old ladies came in and sat right behind me and wouldn't shut up.  They talked non-stop, and very loud too.  So I couldn't hear anything, but I think that "Parkland" and "CBGB" could be good.

{2} TV News

I have mostly enjoyed the new television shows I tested out this week.  I liked "Trophy Wife"

and also "The Michael J. Fox Show"

 I enjoyed "Mom", but I really find shows that are taped before a live audience to be annoying.  I do not like the laughing.  I'd prefer to laugh on my own without prompting.  But I think it has good potential.

I haven't had a chance to watch "Hostages" yet, but it's in my DVR.

I'm trying to figure out if I should watch "Blacklist" On Demand.  I've heard good things, and I don't want to miss out, but I'm trying to figure out if I have time to add another show.

So many first world problems!

{3} Royal News

Today, the conjugal coat of arms for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge (aka: Wills & Kate) were released.  It's the combination of both of their coat of arms.

Also, they announced that Prince George is going to be Christened on October 23rd.  Which led me to think, what the heck do you buy for Prince George for a Christening present if he is your godson?  I mean, I bought my adorable godson a Pottery Barn anywhere chair, but I'm guessing that may not be appropriate for a future king. (and yes, I get that Christening presents are suppose to be religious in nature, but how many bibles can a baby get?  I mean, my thought was, he can sit in his anywhere chair and read bible stories!)

{4} State Fair of Texas

Today is the opening day.  The first day of the new Big Tex.  I think he looks kinda creepy, but I guess I'll have to get there to check him out in person.  But more importantly, I need to get there to eat a corn dog, Jack's Frys, and roasted corn.

{5} I've lost my marbles

I got a call yesterday.  The college desperately needed me to teach another weekend express class beginning next weekend. {BIG SIGH}  I actually lost one of my day time classes right before the semester began (my class was full, but a full time prof's class wasn't, so it went to full timer).  So, I was short some of the money I had planned on.  Plus, I hate to not do a favor for someone who holds power over future classes I can be offered.  I agreed, so I'm living this weekend like it's my last weekend on earth.  Because it kind of  is...at least for a month.  At this point, my goal is to get decorated for Halloween, watch tv, and sleep.  Oh yeah, I probably need to do some school work too since I have less than a week to prep for that class! {BIG SIGH}

Hi, I love your blog design, colors, etc. I don't think I have been here before and if so, it was a long time ago.
I am also in Texas in the country outside of a little town called Jewett. I have not posted much lately but am trying to get back in the swing. My blog is the Purple Goat Lady. Stop in when you have time. I don't got to the movies much, but will watch for the one you saw, but do love to read.

Swiss Oatmeal {Copy Cat Recipe}

I'm obsessed with Swiss Oatmeal.  I particularly love   Corner Bakery's Swiss Oatmeal.  If you are not familiar with Swiss Oatmeal, it is a cold oatmeal cereal with fruit and nuts. I've had a similar recipe for years, but it was only similar.  It wasn't close enough for my liking.  So I finally set out into the land of Pinterest to find a recipe that was a good Copy Cat.  I found a few, combined them and came up with what I think is a very close Copy Cat Recipe of Corner Bakery's Swiss Oatmeal. Here's what I do (note, this recipe is really just pictures, because I don't really have measurements for these things.  The photos aren't great, but it's easier if I show you what I do)... Here's the Phase 1 ingredients...   Milk Honey Yogurt (I use a vanilla greek yogurt) Oats (old fashioned, not quick...you probably could do steel cut too)    I've simplified this to where you only need a bowl and a spoon for Phase 1 becau

Europe 2023 {Day 9 ~ Munich & Bavarian Alps}

 On Tuesday, December 20th I grabbed breakfast at the hotel and then walked about 15 minutes to where I met my tour for the day.  On my first visit to Munich, I only had time for one "day trip" outside of the city and I chose to go to Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial, but I always knew I wanted to venture down to the Bavarian Alps and see some castles on my next visit.  I had booked the premium tour and it was so fancy.  There was a snack bar and they even served beer and wine on the way home after the last stop of the day.  First stop was at Linderhof Castle. This was a "small" castle of King Ludwig's that was a partial mini-replica of Versailles.  It was a snowy walk to the castle... Interior photos were not allowed, but you can see some pics of the interior HERE Like Versailles, there are fountains and sculptures surrounding Linderhof, but they cover the statues with wood huts to protect them from the winter elements. After visiting Linderhof, we made a (to

It's all about the dress...

I mean I guess it's really all about getting married, but come on, you always anticipate the dress right?  Well holy moly folks!  Today a big secret was released to the press.  No, we still don't know which dress or tiara Kate will be wearing, but we heard for the first time that Princess Diana had a back-up dress!  Here are some of the pictures and sketches... Real dress on Left~ Back-up on the Right Here are the sketches of the back-up dress And you know what?  I like the back-up dress better than the one she wore!  I know, I know.  I'm going to get blasted for saying that, but I'll just confess it right now... My name is Kara and I've never thought Princess Diana's dress was all that and a bag of chips.  Nope.  Not my favorite Royal Wedding Dress by any stretch of the imagination.  What is my favorite?  Probably the one that Sarah Ferguson wore when she married Andrew... It had beautiful beading and stitching throughout.  Also on the train it had an &quo
