Kara Goes To Washington, D.C. {Day 3 ~ Friday Night}

On Friday, I took a tour called "Monuments in Moonlight". It wasn't the exact tour I wanted to go on, but I decided it was good enough because that particular tour company picked-up and dropped-off at my hotel. I really wish that I had taken my tripod with me to D.C. Some of the darker spots were very difficult to photograph without it. But I think I got some good shots anyway.

The first stop was The White House.

It's a little difficult to find you way, and our bus driver didn't get off of the bus. Since I had been there earlier in the day, I was able to make my way easily. There were some people from New Jersey on our tour (they weren't there for the Booker event...just a coincidence). At one point, I heard them yell, "Slow down Texas! We are all following you!"

Next stop was the Thomas Jefferson Memorial. It has always been a favorite of mine.

The next stop was a dual stop... The FDR and MLK memorials

Roosevelt's is a huge memorial. It is made up of "multiple rooms". One marking each of his terms in office. It also has a statue of his dog and his wife, which is unusual for the memorials.

Next up was the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial

I was very impressed with this memorial. I thought it was very well done.

The Lincoln Memorial, Korean War Memorial, & Vietnam War Memorial were all on the next stop. They didn't really give enough time on the stops, so I skipped the Vietnam Memorial. The Korean War Memorial was super dark. It was very hard to get a decent picture here without a tripod. This was the best I got, but it isn't very good.

I was disappointed my tour didn't stop at the World War II Memorial. We drove by and it looked really pretty all lit up at night. We also didn't stop at the Capitol for a pic. I got this not-very-good photo as we drove by

I really enjoyed seeing all the monuments lit up at night.

Swiss Oatmeal {Copy Cat Recipe}

I'm obsessed with Swiss Oatmeal. I particularly love Corner Bakery's Swiss Oatmeal. If you are not familiar with Swiss Oatmeal, it is a cold oatmeal cereal with fruit and nuts. I've had a similar recipe for years, but it was only similar. It wasn't close enough for my liking. So I finally set out into the land of Pinterest to find a recipe that was a good Copy Cat. I found a few, combined them and came up with what I think is a very close Copy Cat Recipe of Corner Bakery's Swiss Oatmeal. Here's what I do (note, this recipe is really just pictures, because I don't really have measurements for these things. The photos aren't great, but it's easier if I show you what I do)... Europe 2023 {Day 9 ~ Munich & Bavarian Alps}

On Tuesday, December 20th I grabbed breakfast at the hotel and then walked about 15 minutes to where I met my tour for the day. On my first visit to Munich, I only had time for one "day trip" outside of the city and I chose to go to Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial, but I always knew I wanted to venture down to the Bavarian Alps and see some castles on my next visit. I had booked the premium tour and it was so fancy. There was a snack bar and they even served beer and wine on the way home after the last stop of the day. First stop was at Linderhof Castle. This was a "small" castle of King Ludwig's that was a partial mini-replica of Versailles. It was a snowy walk to the castle...
