Sunday's events

Jennifer and I went to Canton today. It was a fairly typical trip (ie: I spent too much money). Jennifer and I are quite the anomalies though... everyone was talking about the nice weather while Jennifer and I were moaning and groaning about the weather. We could have been quoted as saying, "I wish it were freezing." and "I wish we were experiencing a cold rain today.", etc. You see, we were sweating it up today, and that is most definitely something I DO NOT enjoy in November. In addition, pretty weather = bigger crowds. Our favorite Canton trip EVER was in subzero temps! We had the whole place practically to ourselves (never mind the cuddle duds we had to wear under our clothes, the coats, the gloves, the scarves, and the hats that we had to wear!).

We stopped back by the outlets in Terrell but didn't get anything there. I mention it because it made me think of a funny story about Lisa and her parents. Lisa's parents Don and Edna live in Terrell. Once when Lisa was visiting a year or two ago, she wanted to go to the outlets, but it was after dark. Edna was adamant that Lisa could not go alone (despite the fact that she was 30 something years old and practically lived alone too). Edna kept telling Lisa, "you have to take your Daddy with you". To which Lisa replied, "Mom, what good is Daddy going to do if someone tries to attack me, he can barely hobble along on his bum knee." To which Edna replied, "If you take Daddy then you don't have to run faster than your attacker, you only have to be faster than Daddy!"

Classic! I love Edna!

Swiss Oatmeal {Copy Cat Recipe}

I'm obsessed with Swiss Oatmeal.  I particularly love  Corner Bakery's Swiss Oatmeal.  If you are not familiar with Swiss Oatmeal, it is a cold oatmeal cereal with fruit and nuts.

I've had a similar recipe for years, but it was only similar.  It wasn't close enough for my liking.  So I finally set out into the land of Pinterest to find a recipe that was a good Copy Cat.  I found a few, combined them and came up with what I think is a very close Copy Cat Recipe of Corner Bakery's Swiss Oatmeal.

Here's what I do (note, this recipe is really just pictures, because I don't really have measurements for these things.  The photos aren't great, but it's easier if I show you what I do)...

Here's the Phase 1ingredients... Milk Honey Yogurt (I use a vanilla greek yogurt) Oats (old fashioned, not quick...you probably could do steel cut too) I've simplified this to where you only need a bowl and a spoon for Phase 1 because I use my yogurt cup as a meas…

It's all about the dress...

I mean I guess it's really all about getting married, but come on, you always anticipate the dress right?  Well holy moly folks!  Today a big secret was released to the press.  No, we still don't know which dress or tiara Kate will be wearing, but we heard for the first time that Princess Diana had a back-up dress!  Here are some of the pictures and sketches...

Real dress on Left~ Back-up on the Right Here are the sketches of the back-up dress

And you know what?  I like the back-up dress better than the one she wore!  I know, I know.  I'm going to get blasted for saying that, but I'll just confess it right now... My name is Kara and I've never thought Princess Diana's dress was all that and a bag of chips.  Nope.  Not my favorite Royal Wedding Dress by any stretch of the imagination.  What is my favorite?  Probably the one that Sarah Ferguson wore when she married Andrew...
It had beautiful beading and stitching throughout.  Also on the train it had an "A&quo…

Pumpkins, Gourds & Flowers, oh my!

Yesterday, I went to the Dallas Arboretum.  Lisa, Jennifer, and I went as my birthday outing.  We got a late start due to some court delays, so we stopped for lunch first.  I needed some make-up too, so we went to Neimans.  We ogled some purses, had lunch, I got some make-up and then we headed out to the arboretum (in the rain).

It was raining pretty good on the way over, but luckily, we only needed umbrellas for a few minutes.  Thankfully the sun never came out, because it was so humid, I'm pretty sure we would have melted.

First, we made our way toward the Pumpkin Village...

I love how they made garland out of the mini-pumpkins...

These rose bushes were just stunning!  The roses on each bush varied in color from a coral, to a blush, to a purple hue...
It was Fall at the arboretum, and pumpkins, gourds, and mums are a large part of the visit.  However, they also have a Chihuly art exhibition going on.  I took so many pictures, I HAVE to make that it's whole separate post.  …
