Helping Heros & Ryan Star

Back in the fall, I turned my hair-dresser, Cathy, onto Ryan Star.  It quickly benefited me because I got to listen to Ryan while getting my hair done, as he was now on her salon's playlist.  Then earlier this year, I got a call one night from Cathy wanting to know if she could give my number to Dr. Jennifer Buchanan, who was wanting my help on a charity concert she puts on each year in McKinney. Jennifer Buchanan called me, explained that she has a charity concert on Memorial Day weekend each year that raises money to build homes for wounded warriors.  She had heard Ryan playing on Cathy's playlist, and Cathy had suggested he might be great for the headliner of this year's concert.  She wanted to know if I had an "in" for getting him.  I told her not really.  I go to every concert when Ryan is in Dallas (and sometimes other parts of Texas), and while he recognizes me, he wouldn't know my name.  I did rustle up some email addresses for his ...

Can't Get Enough of Ryan Star

Ryan Star was in Dallas on Monday night.  Woo-hoo!  Of course I headed down to Deep Ellum to see him.  My friend Abby thinks that he always looks angry when he sings... I say it's intensity But he is really the nicest guy you'll ever meet, and I was happy that I snapped a photo of him looking like it... It was a great show.  I finally got to hear him sing one of the songs I've always wanted to hear him sing live.  I got a few hugs after the show and we discussed his going back into the studio to turn out a new record soon, his coming back to Dallas with his full band next time, and what he is reading now and reading next.  He also mentioned that he knows I come to all his Dallas shows and how very appreciative he is.  Nicest.  Guy.  Ever!  Hope that doesn't ruin his Rock Star image.

Show Some Love Southwest

Who doesn't love to fly Southwest Airlines?  Aside from being the airline that takes me to NOLA, they let me check my bags for free.  Enough said.  I don't want to complain, but... Dear Southwest, The most exciting thing I've ever encountered on your flight is getting Honey Roasted Peanuts instead of regular peanuts.  Why can't you hook me up on a flight like this next time? Your loyal customer, Kara

Mishmash Post

I've been missing again.   It's been unintentional.  Last time I blogged, it was Lola's birthday.  I never got her to fully cooperate with the birthday flag photo on Friday... Our day didn't go quite as planned.  My granddad got very sick and I rushed to Nocona to be with my grandmother at the hospital for a few hours.  Then I came back late on Friday night because I had a busy weekend planned. My friend Abby came to town on Saturday.  I picked her up at the airport at 10, and then we started the fun... We shopped We ate We looked at an awesome new house my uncle just bought We had a "party" for Lola's birthday We went to the House of Blues to see Ryan Star One place we shopped was Swoozies.  I was thrilled to finally find a cute shell for my ipad.  It's been dang near impossible to find one for the ipad 2, so since the ipad 3 is about to come out, it makes sense that there is now a case for the 2, right?  Anyway, I couldn't be ...
