Packing & Travel Tips

The good news is, you are going to Europe, anything you forget, you can buy there.  That being said, I like to be as prepared as possible, because who wants to spend vacation time trying to buy a plug adapter? These are some things I like to always pack for a trip to Europe: Adapters vs. Converters An Adapter makes our US plugs fit into their different shaped plugs, while a converter actually changes the voltage for our US products.  For the most part, adapters are all you will need in today's times because most of our plugs are ok to use with a range of voltage.  iPhones, camera chargers, etc. generally work with an adapter only.  The way to tell is to look at the writing on the back of your charger.  If it has a range, then it is good for those voltages.  Adapters are relatively cheap and can be purchased at travel/luggage stores, or even just on Amazon.  I google the place I'm going, and find out what type of plugs they have.  Be aw...

New Glasses from Warby Parker

I heard about Warby Parker a couple of years ago from the source where I have found out about so much information and "favorite things" over the years...Ms. Oprah Winfrey.  Oprah is a big fan of Warby Parker eyeglasses. I went to the eye doctor a couple of weeks ago and decided that I wanted some new glasses, so Warby Parker was my go-to place.  I was very excited to see that they had a store in Dallas.  They don't have stores in a ton of locations, but if they don't have one in your area, they have a neat little mail order program where you can pick out 5 frames, and they mail them to you to try. The process of selecting frames was very quick for me.  I was probably in and out in about 15 minutes.  It was primarily because I loved almost every pair I tried.  It kind of made me wish I didn't wear contact lenses because I would have totally bought 4 pair!  Since I only wear glasses a couple of hours a day, I had to select just one. {they have an a...

Booties for Fall

Do you ever just get a bee in your bonnet and decide that you cannot live without a certain fashion item?  I sure do.  Friday night, the bee in my bonnet was black suede booties.  Why on earth I decided that I couldn't live the weekend without some black suede booties, I have no idea.  I mean, it's not like the temps are even cool enough to wear something like that in Texas for another couple of months, but I decided I couldn't live without them, and went on an internet search.  I had earned a DSW rewards certificate, plus they sent out another coupon for this labor day weekend, so I looked there first.  I located several pair at my local store, in my size (which is a miracle), and headed out on Saturday morning to try and locate this item I couldn't live without. I tried on several pair, and here are some of them... This was the pair I went with my eye on.  It's by Adrienne Vittadini and is called "Truman". Here it is in grey, which is ver...

A Gift to Myself

When I teach an express class each semester, I like to buy myself a reward present for completing it without having to enter rehab for exhaustion during or after the class.  You know, that's a thing that celebrities do.  I'm pretty sure in the normal world, that's called a vacation, but I digress. Anyway, it's really not that bad.  I think the dread of giving up 3 weekends, and teaching 17 hours over the course of less than 48 hours, is the worst part.  I've been teaching the last 2 weekends, and today I start my 3rd and final weekend. This semester, the express class happened to coincide with the end of the regular semester, which means I've also been pretty busy wrapping up things for my other two regular semester classes.  Add all that to the past 3 weeks of my actual full-time job practicing law being insanely busy, and well, I feel like I deserve a reward. I usually like to buy myself something that I might not purchase on a regular basis.  I hav...

A Summer Tote

Starting early this year, I saw this L.K. Bennett ad in all my magazines month in and month out... Immediately, I felt a strong pull toward that English Seaside inspired tote! I went to their website and it was nowhere to be found.  I looked week after week, and finally took to twitter... (by the way, it is not named Lucy) I waited impatiently  patiently, and finally I found them on their UK website, but they weren't on the US website.  I also called to the Texas LK Bennett store in Houston.  They knew less than I did for whatever reason, but they mentioned that they were getting lots of calls of inquiry about it. So what's a girl to do?  Take to the twitter again, of course... I started to worry that if I waited for them to be released in the US, they would sell out before I got one, so I sucked it up, decided I wanted it bad enough to pay shipping from the UK, and placed an order from their UK website. Truth be told, I wasn't e...
