Hello Fresh...my newest favorite thing

A few months ago, I got a coupon code for Hello Fresh, and I decided to try it out ( I'm giving you the same coupon at the bottom of this post! ).  I had heard dozens of advertisements for similar food services, like Blue Apron, and even trashed a ton of coupons for BA because their menus didn't really appeal to me.  When I check out Hello Fresh, their menus seemed much more to my taste, and it has quickly turned into my newest favorite thing. A little about my food situation:  I don't mind cooking, but I don't do so well when it comes to planning and shopping.  And if I need to thaw out something to cook, like chicken breasts, etc., well, there is a 98% chance I will forget to do that.  I also tend to buy too much food at the store, and end up with lots of waste.   Basically, Hello Fresh solves all of these problems for me.  They send me 3 meals on Mondays.  My Hello Fresh box includes every thing I need to cook the meals except olive oil...

My Favorite Things 2012

I had planned to do a favorite things 2012 list again.  Then something else got my attention and the list changed a bit.  Let me explain... How often have you said, or you have heard someone say, "The economy is terrible.  The jobless rate is awful.  When are the politicians going to do something to fix it?" or something similar to that?  I imagine everyone is raising their hand right about now.  Well let me ask you this... What have you done to change or fix things?  Many times we sit around and wait for someone else to fix things, when there is plenty that we could do to help matters. ABC News runs a "Made in America" piece quite often.  If we all made a conscious effort to purchase more Made in America goods, we could do a whole lot to help the economy and create more jobs for fellow Americans.  Did you know that if we all spent just $64 on Made in American goods this holiday season we could create 200,000 new jobs right here at home?...

How do you measure up?

So that title could mean anything, right?  But what I really want to address is a burning question that has come up here at the F&C law firm today... While we were hard at work representing our clients  out Christmas shopping this afternoon,  Jennifer and I popped into a Williams Sonoma.  I stopped and was admiring their measuring cups.  They've changed the shape.  They are more ladle like now, but I digress.  Anyway, we noticed that they have a Odd Shape Set now.  Both of cups and spoons... They measure out odd sizes, but ones that you frequently use.  The cups measure 2/3 cup, 3/4 cup and 1 1/2 cups.  Which then caused Jennifer to say, How nice, I always have to get out the 1/2 cup and the 1/4 cup when a recipe calls for 3/4 cup.   Which then left me saying, you what? (and imagine a puzzled look on my face).  So she's like, well how do you do it, then?   To which I say, I use the 1/4 cup 3 time...

Cooking Tools

I love cooking tools.  I love pretty cooking tools even better.  I love just about any cooking tool that comes in pink... These were the primary mixing bowls I used for several years.  Only there used to be 3.  I broke the size in the middle...the size I probably used the most. So then I got these from Williams Sonoma.  I think I got them as a birthday gift. Remember..."I believe in pink". I thought these were particularly great for several reasons.  (1) They are made of melamine, which is way more durable than the ceramic ones. (2) They each have this great little spout which makes pouring things much easier and less messy. (3) They have a rubber ring around the bottom which holds them in place on the counter when you are mixing or stirring stuff. Then those evil geniuses at Williams Sonoma, got together and said "How can we entice the people who already have a melamine set of bowls to buy another set of bowls?".  So they came out w...
