Hello Fresh...my newest favorite thing

A few months ago, I got a coupon code for Hello Fresh, and I decided to try it out (I'm giving you the same coupon at the bottom of this post!).  I had heard dozens of advertisements for similar food services, like Blue Apron, and even trashed a ton of coupons for BA because their menus didn't really appeal to me.  When I check out Hello Fresh, their menus seemed much more to my taste, and it has quickly turned into my newest favorite thing.

A little about my food situation:  I don't mind cooking, but I don't do so well when it comes to planning and shopping.  And if I need to thaw out something to cook, like chicken breasts, etc., well, there is a 98% chance I will forget to do that.  I also tend to buy too much food at the store, and end up with lots of waste.

Basically, Hello Fresh solves all of these problems for me.  They send me 3 meals on Mondays.  My Hello Fresh box includes every thing I need to cook the meals except olive oil, salt, pepper, and sugar.  I have the app on my phone (which I prefer to the website really), so I just view the menus each week and select 3 of the 8 meal choices.  If at any point I don't want to receive a box, I just hit skip.  You can skip as many weeks as you want, and you can even cancel your service without any problems.

Each meal serves 2, so I only have it send me 3 in a week (since that's really 6 meals for me), but you can order up to 5 meals for a week, and you can also order a family plan to serve 4 people.  The plan I have is $59.96 per week.  At first that seemed expensive, but once you pay attention to what you spend at the store + waste + nights you eat out because you don't have anything to cook, or didn't thaw out something...well it's pretty reasonable.

What is better than your weekly meal plan and ingredients being delivered right to your door?

Your 3 recipe cards are on top (you can also access their recipe bank online if you want ideas for weeks you skip)
All of the ingredients are in individual boxes (except the meat).
Under these boxes are large ice packs, and the meat is on the bottom.
You receive the exact proportions of each ingredient you need.

This is an example of the first meal I made.  All ingredients have been super fresh.
 Shrimp & Asparagus Risotto

Sliced Steak Tagliata with Sweet Potato Wedges & Warm Tomatoes in Vinaigrette
Sweet 'N' Spicy Apricot Chicken with Lemony Couscous & Green Beans

This Juicy Lucy Burger with Tomato-Onion Jam & Arugula Salad was awesome

Crusted Dijon Cod with Dilled Fingerling Potatoes & Roasted Broccoli

I've also tried:
Winner Winner Chicken Orzo Dinner with Cheesy Roasted Zucchini & Tomatoes, and
Skillet Turkey Enchiladas with Lime Radish Salad, but for some reason don't have pictures of those.

I'm eagerly awaiting this weeks...
Presto Pesto Panko Chicken
Pineapple Pork Chops, and
Chicken Sausage Pizzas

and next weeks (there is time for you to get in on this one by the way!)...
Meatloaf Balsamico
Char-Grilled Barbecue Chicken, and
Fun Day Fajita Bar

and then the next weeks...
Truffle & Herb-Crusted New York Stip Steak
Sriracha Turkey Burgers, and
Creamy Chicken Pasta

Have I convinced you to try it yet?  It really is a service that has far exceeded my expectations.  Here's the deal that got me to try it.  A $40 off code.  (updated: Code has expired) Which means you could try a week for $19.96!  How can you beat that?  That's $3.33 a serving.  Do what I did:  Sign up, Use the discount code, and then immediately put the next couple of weeks on hold.  That way you don't forget to do that if you don't love it.  Once you do love it, go in and select your menu for the weeks to come.  Easy!

Now I'll let you in on another secret that I just discovered...Hello Fresh gift cards are available on Sam's Club website.  So I will be buying those up to get my meals even cheaper every week!  It knocks a week down to $47.98!

Swiss Oatmeal {Copy Cat Recipe}

I'm obsessed with Swiss Oatmeal.  I particularly love   Corner Bakery's Swiss Oatmeal.  If you are not familiar with Swiss Oatmeal, it is a cold oatmeal cereal with fruit and nuts. I've had a similar recipe for years, but it was only similar.  It wasn't close enough for my liking.  So I finally set out into the land of Pinterest to find a recipe that was a good Copy Cat.  I found a few, combined them and came up with what I think is a very close Copy Cat Recipe of Corner Bakery's Swiss Oatmeal. Here's what I do (note, this recipe is really just pictures, because I don't really have measurements for these things.  The photos aren't great, but it's easier if I show you what I do)... Here's the Phase 1 ingredients...   Milk Honey Yogurt (I use a vanilla greek yogurt) Oats (old fashioned, not quick...you probably could do steel cut too)    I've simplified this to where you only need a bowl and a spoon for Phase 1 becau
