I went to Hobby Lobby last week, and as I walked down one of the aisles, some cute wooden letters with metal accents caught my eye.  I immediately thought that they would make cute non-seasonal door decor, but since they weren't on sale, I decided to wait until this when when they would be. Today I went back and got a letter, plus some burlap ribbon to hang it on.  It took less than 10 minutes to put together and turned out pretty cute, if I do say so myself!   Each letter in the alphabet appear to come in these three colors...   They are lightweight and they hang easily.  I got the red for my mom.  It will work nicely on her door.  They have a glass storm door over their front door, so wreaths don't hang very well because they are too thick.   I'm thinking that for myself, I might make a burlap wreath, and hang this letter in the middle.  But that will be at some point in the future, when I have a little mor...

Last year, after all the Christmas decorations got really, really cheap, I purchased a ton of ornaments.  4 different colors, different sizes, shapes, and finishes.  I had grand plans to make a new mantle garland.  I was inspired by this picture on pinterest, even though I knew I could never in a million years recreate it exactly... Source: desiretoinspire.net via Kara on Pinterest I brainstormed all year.  I tried to figure out how best to tackle this project.  At first I thought:  hot glue the balls to some sort of base.  Then I ran across the tub storing my valentine wreath and saw that the heat of the garage had not been kind to the wreath.  Then I thought about using the craft glue that I used for my Tech wreath .  Then I thought pool noodles would be the answer to a good base.  Then it came time to do it, and I decided I had lost my mind.  I then took pin-spiration from these pictures and decided to use regular ...

I've been trying to keep my mind occupied this week, so for the past two days, it has been project central around here.  Jennifer bought a formal dining set for her new house from a friend of ours.  The friend had purchased fabric to recover the chair cushions, but had never done it.  She gave Jennifer the fabric and we wasted no time getting these recovered.  The picture is suppose to go landscape, but don't know what has happened! I think they turned out very nice.  Lola agreed. (Ugh-again with the picture orientation!) Also, we took on another project.  This past weekend, while over at Jennifer's new house for the inspection, we noticed that the neighbor was having an estate sale.  We went over and found a new lateral filing cabinet for $50.  Actually, it turns out that the seller's bad math, resulted in errant change counting and we got it for $40 instead!  This is what it looked like... I purchased several things of "fake ornaments" after Christmas.  You know, the kind that look like glass balls, but really are shatter proof.  I bought red, pink and purple with a Valentine's Day project in mind.  After picking up a new glue gun last week to replace the one that exploded, I got to work on a new wreath for the front door.  The last ornament wreath I made, I tried to string them on a wire.  I didn't love that, so I decided to go the foam wreath and glue route this time.  I tried to follow some how-to examples I saw on Pinterest.  They were helpful enough, but I definitely discovered some things that I would do different next time.  Here's the finished product...

The chandelier is finally hanging in my bathroom.  The electricians were here from 7-11 this morning.  They were very nice and very afraid of Lola.  She's such a mess.  She's just plain mean to people when they are here working on the house.  I'm pretty pleased with it, even if it did end up costing more than I thought... Again, please ignore my mess.  Tuesdays are my crazy days, and then with the electrician coming at 7 this morning, well it's a mess. I had it put on a dimmer, so in theory, I could enjoy a nice soak in the tub with the lights down low. If you know me well, then you know that's never going to happen.  I don't think I've ever spent more than 4 minutes in a tub in my life.  I get a little antsy.  But I always like having the option! So what I'm going to call Phase 4 of the Bathroom Remodel is completed. Again, I'm still unsure how many phases there are.

I enjoyed the day off yesterday, how about y'all?  Sadly, I had a 7 a.m. class to teach this morning, so I felt like my holiday weekend came to a rude and abrupt ending!  I have to teach tonight at 7 too.  Tuesdays are my long day. I have something to celebrate today, though...Jennifer is back to work!  After a 3 month absence, I am no longer playing the role of 2 attorneys.  Woo-hoo! Here's what's been going on the past week or so around here... I got a new back fence.  It borders our Homeowners Association, so they paid for it.  That was great, but my house backs up to a very busy road.  After witnessing the immediate aftermath of a little white dog being hit by a Prius the previous week, I wasn't taking any chances so I shipped Lola off to Nocona for a couple of days. Unfortunately, on Saturday, Lola was feeling pretty puny.  I was getting worried about my pup, but she rallied and was a kibble-eating & playing fetch machine the ...

There is a prOject on the horizon (see, I typed that out so that you would say prOject in your head just as if Sarah Richardson herself was saying it with her Toronto-Canadian accent instead of my American accent). The prOject will take place in my master bedroom and bath.  The bedroom is NOT in for a major overhaul, thank the Lord.  I'm still happy with all that I did back a year and a half ago, but there have been a couple of things that I thought needed a tweak and so I brought in an interior decorator to tell me whether or not some of my ideas were crazy or a must-do prOject.  The bathroom, well, that's another story.  It's in for as big an overhaul as I can tackle on my own.  I'd still love to tear out the shower and start over, but that's not in my budget right now. I have a buffet in my breakfast room.  I keep a really random assortment of junk in it.  It really needs to be organized and cleaned out, but that's a project for another day.  Yesterday, I worked on the shelf that's in the middle of the buffet. The bottom shelf has always housed cookbooks, but the top shelf was always too short to use for the books.  It was movable, but would only move up, which obviously didn't help.  I stored my teapot and tea tray there, which was nice, but I always hated that I couldn't have two shelves that could both store cookbooks.  So yesterday, after 6+ years of wishing it was different, it hit me.  Why don't I get the drill out and drill some new holes so that I can move the shelf down! Here's how it has been { really this was after the shelf was moved down, but this is how it's been displayed } Now after.... I ended up drilling the holes a little higher than I intended.  It was kind of hard to drill...
