Do you have tall boots that flop over, or won't stand up on the shelf or bottom of your closet?  I had this problem a few years ago, and I went to my go-to place for organization, The Container Store, for a solution.  The solutions I found were kinda pricey though, so I set out to find a cheaper solution to my problem.  I have been using my DIY Boot Shapers for a couple of years, and they work great, so I'm sharing it with you today. It's the perfect time of year to share this secret because...  (1) You need pool noodles for this project, (2) pool noodles become hard to find in fall and winter months, and (3) pool noodles are currently on sale! I have always purchased my noodles at Walmart.  Specifically, the monster noodles.  I think they work best because they are bigger around than the regular pool noodles.  They usually run about $8, which is still reasonable because you get 2 sets of shapers out of each noodle, so $4 per set doesn't sound to...

The Kitchen Decorations are, for the most part, the same as last year.  I'll point out the couple of differences as I go along. This year, as I was decorating, I decided that this tree could no longer be a multi-purpose tree.  In the past, it was made up of kitchen-y ornaments, ornaments from my childhood, and ornaments I picked up during my travels.  The tree was too full, so I decided to create a travel tree (more to come on that in a later post). Last year, after all the Christmas decorations got really, really cheap, I purchased a ton of ornaments.  4 different colors, different sizes, shapes, and finishes.  I had grand plans to make a new mantle garland.  I was inspired by this picture on pinterest, even though I knew I could never in a million years recreate it exactly... I purchased several things of "fake ornaments" after Christmas.  You know, the kind that look like glass balls, but really are shatter proof.  I bought red, pink and purple with a Valentine's Day project in mind.  After picking up a new glue gun last week to replace the one that exploded, I got to work on a new wreath for the front door.  The last ornament wreath I made, I tried to string them on a wire.  I didn't love that, so I decided to go the foam wreath and glue route this time.  I tried to follow some how-to examples I saw on Pinterest.  They were helpful enough, but I definitely discovered some things that I would do different next time.  Here's the finished product...

I didn't do any baking this Christmas, but I did get crafty thanks to Pinterest.  I made several ornaments this year for Christmas.  I think I've already shown you the one that I made for myself, but in case you missed it, here it is again... I made a red one for my hair lady with just a big "C" on it.  I also did a red one for some family friends that had a husband & wife monogram on it.  I have no visual proof that I made these red ones, you will have to take my word for it! Finally, I made these for my pre-teen cousins.  They seemed to really like them. I also did some post-Christmas sale shopping yesterday with an eye toward a Valentine craft project.  What about y'all?  Did you do any crafting this Christmas?

This past Friday night I did a little crafting.  You know, because I had nothing else to do.  Really, I needed my head examined.  Why on earth was I crafting when I had yet to really decorate my house for the season was the million dollar question.  But I had seen a couple of things on Pinterest and I was determine to make them. I tried my hand at making blingy ornaments.  They are pretty easy, just kind of hard to get the letters all spaced out correctly.  I made one for myself and one for my friend Abby just to test it out and see how it worked.  I am still looking for some cute ribbons to tie around the top... I also wanted to add a little something Christmas-y to the big tin wall-hanging above my television.  I decided on an ornament wreath.  I've seen two methods of doing these.  One involves hot gluing them to a foam wreath form and the other involves putting them on a wire.  I tried the wire method with a wire hanger...

I've spent my spare time this week putting the finishing touches on my Tech wreath.  Hey, it's football season and time's a tickin'.  No time to waste! Here's the finished product... I sent a finsihed photo text to a couple of people and they said, "cute pennant, where did you find it".  Answer:  I made it.  Here's how... I bought all of the stuff that's on the pennant from Hobby Lobby.  If you follow me on twitter, you may have seen the tweet "Glitter or Sequins.  The ultimate crafting decision."  This is what that was referencing! The pennant itself is was just that flimsy foam stuff that you see in kid's crafts where they glue stuff onto it. I bought some foam board and cut it just a bit smaller than the foam pennant and then glued it to the back for support.  Then I glued silver sequins around the edge.  Later I decided to glue smaller red sequins to the inside of the silver ones. College Football is back!  Can I get a "woo-hoo!"?  We're not televised this week, but I'm enjoying watching the other games.  How about those Baylor Bears?  Dang! I did several things to get prepared for this exciting weekend... First, a trip to Central Market yesterday afternoon to buy lots of yumminess to make it through all the games on this holiday weekend. Second, making a Red Raider Wreath for my door... I got this inspiration from Pinterest... I went to Canton on Thursday and bought some of the "ingredients" to make my own version. I bought a roll of this metallic deco fabric, or as I like to call it "that damn fabric"... I really do hate working with this stuff, but I think it looks nice.
