{Confessions of a Product Junkie}... spend $ to save $$$

It's been forever since I posted a Confessions of a Product Junkie post, but don't think that means I'm a reformed product junkie!  I still love products, and today I'm sharing a way for you to get the most from your products. No matter how much I spend on the product, it makes me so mad when I see all the product left at the bottom of a bottle, or other type of container.  Now, if it's a tube the solution is easy.  Cut that tube open, and you can probably use it for days...just put it in a zip lock until you've actually used it all. If it's in a hard container, that option isn't possible, but here are 3 products you need in your life that will solve that problem.  These products may be available lots of places, but I got my at The Container Store, so I've linked to their website. This "large" mini spatula  is great for your foundation bottles, eye creams, serums, etc.  It even has a handy little side portion for getting under the li...

{Confessions of a Product Junkie}... a new hair diffuser for ALL hair types

My Devacurl diffuser was melting after a year + of use.  I wasn't pressured by this, as all of my diffusers have eventually ended up melting, but I started shopping around to see what else was out there, when I ran across this one... It's the  YS Park Large Diffuser .  This Japanese Company came out with this diffuser that actually blocks airflow, so you are only getting heat.  Apparently this diffuser was used all over New York Fashion Week on the models, so t his seems to be a diffuser that's not just for us curly haired people, but one used on all hair types.   What has me the most excited about this product is that it is light weight and small, and will fit on ANY hair dryer.  This will totally lighten up my packing in the future!  I can use the hotel hair dryer, and bring along this diffuser that is essentially like packing a sock!  I'm so excited to lighten my load for my upcoming European trip.  Lighter load = more roo...

{Confessions of a Product Junkie}....Curly Hair Products Update

Hello blog readers!  It's been a awhile!  I have just completed my 3rd week of a 5 week summer term where I am teaching 2 classes, which equates to being away from everything for approximately 20 hours a week between Monday-Thursday.  Couple that with my law practice, and well, that's where I've been for the last bit.  I think I have some exciting adventures to share this summer, so don't go anywhere! Today, I'm giving up update on my hair.  Not that any of you care about MY hair, but if anyone has curly, wavy, or even knows someone with either of those types of hair, hopefully this post can help you too! I wrote last summer about my own personal hair product apocalypse when most of my go-to products were discontinued and I was forced to find something that would work for my curly hair.  It's definitely been an example of where "one door closes, another door opens" or "all things happen for a reason" (or insert your preferred cliche here...

Confessions of a Product Junkie {organizing the product}

Since we've already established that I'm a product junkie, I thought I'd take a break from discussing products I love, and talk about organization.  I've been on an organization and spring cleaning kick, and that continued into this past weekend when I cleaned out my makeup drawer and under my bathroom sinks.  I threw out another large garbage bag of junk, but I was still left with a lot of stuff.  I decided to change it up and organize things differently.  This is how it turned out...   This is my makeup drawer.   I'm trying out a new system here, but I'm not sold on it yet. I'm giving it a couple of weeks, and if I don't like it, I will flip the organization unit around and go back to what I'm used to. I decided to store extra make up products in my closet on this shelf I cleared out the other day... For the past several years, I kept this under the sink, but it was out of sight, out of mind. I thought if I could access it ...

Confessions of a Product Junkie....Hair product trial run edition

In my previous installment of my Confessions of a Product Junkie, I wrote about my hair product crisis.  I reported that I was researching and investigating new products.  Well, I finally received all my Devacurl products.  Today was a great day to try them out because I didn't have to be in court, have a meeting, teach a class, or see anyone important.  In other words, if my hair turned out to be totally craptastic, I could just re-do it tomorrow, no harm-no foul.  Here's what I was trying out: In the shower...   I tried the DevaCurl Low-poo and One Conditioner.  I also tried out their microfiber towel on my hair instead of a regular terry towel.   My thoughts:  I decided to try the Low-Poo instead of the No-Poo "shampoo".  After researching up on the curly hair products and what is best, I learned that most shampoos strip too much of the moisture from hair.  Moisture is the key to a good curly hair-do.  I ...

Confessions of a Product Junkie...hair product crisis edition

I ran across an article from Allure Magazine (February 2013) the other day.  It was about curly hair.  It spoke to me in a way it wouldn't have even a year ago.  Not because I didn't have curly hair last year, Lord knows I did, but because a year ago, I had my concoction of products perfected and I got nearly perfect hair all the time.  Then something really bad happened.  An almost apocalyptic event...Not one, not two, not three, but six (S-I-X!) of my hair products were discontinued! Now I know what you are thinking... You use  six products on your hair? If you are passing that judgment on me, you must not have curly hair.  From shampoo to hair spray, I use nine products.  Judge if you must, but it's not just me.  That article from Allure backed me up.  In a line that particularly resonated with me, it said... "Curly-haired women are like chemists:  We use a dab of this, a dollop of that to create our perfect concoction." ...

My Favorite Things 2012

I had planned to do a favorite things 2012 list again.  Then something else got my attention and the list changed a bit.  Let me explain... How often have you said, or you have heard someone say, "The economy is terrible.  The jobless rate is awful.  When are the politicians going to do something to fix it?" or something similar to that?  I imagine everyone is raising their hand right about now.  Well let me ask you this... What have you done to change or fix things?  Many times we sit around and wait for someone else to fix things, when there is plenty that we could do to help matters. ABC News runs a "Made in America" piece quite often.  If we all made a conscious effort to purchase more Made in America goods, we could do a whole lot to help the economy and create more jobs for fellow Americans.  Did you know that if we all spent just $64 on Made in American goods this holiday season we could create 200,000 new jobs right here at home?...

Happenings

I've had a pretty boring week.  Work-Got someone out of jail.  School-Gave a couple of lectures on Federalism, one on the Executive Branch & gave a couple of exams.  Exciting stuff, I tell you.  Our firm got randomly audited by the Texas Workforce Commission.  No many how many times they tell you it's only a random audit, you still panic a lot little.  The real highlight of my week is today's hair appointment.  I needed it.  BAD.  My hair was just plain awful people.  As much as I love the end result, I hate the 3 hour appointment.  If only they could figure out how I could nap during the process... I had decided that I wanted to change up my color a little.  I was a little bored.  I found this pic on Pinterest a couple of weeks ago and pinned it... Source: google.com via Kara on Pinterest So today, when my hair lady said, "What do you want?", instead of hemming and hawing, I busted out the pinterest app on my p...
