A Roadtrip to OKC

My mom and I had a little road trip on Saturday to Oklahoma City.  Originally we planned on a full Oklahoma weekend road trip to see some sites in OKC and then go up to Pawhuska.  But the exhibit we wanted to see in OKC leaves on October 23rd, and the Pioneer Woman's Mercantile opening date got pushed to October 31st, so we just went to OKC for the day. I got my Mom hooked on AMC's television show "Hell on Wheels" before it's 3rd season.  It's a western of sorts, but centered around the building of the transcontinental railroad.  Like all AMC shows, it's very well done. The series has finished now, and they have a temporary exhibit at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in OKC.  They have several of the character's costumes on display and lots of information about the building of the railroad. Many of the characters were based on real people.  These costumes belonged to the two Railroad men characters in the series...Collins H...

West Wing Weekly Love

It's finals week, which means I'm counting down the days until I've given all the government exams, assigned grades, and get to enjoy a few weeks off until Summer school starts.  I saw this yesterday, and would have shared it with my students if I thought they could appreciate the West Wing humor. Who wouldn't love a good luck message from Josh and Sam? If you know me, then you probably know I love The West Wing more than any other show that has ever existed.  And I do mean L-O-V-E!  I watched every single episode when it aired, and I have all the seasons on DVD (I'm no johnny come netflix lately).  I've watched each and every episode at least 15 times, and some way more than that.   In today's times, everyone is clamoring for a reboot of their favorite shows, and I'm no exception.  I've loved that Sex and the City gave us a couple of movies, and I'm pleased as punch that Gilmore Girls has been filming new episodes.  I could easily ...

Saying Goodbye to Downton Abbey {no spoilers}

It's no secret that I love Downton Abbey, and my visit to Highclere Castle is one of my favorite days ever.  Each year, I watch the first few episodes as we get them aired to us on PBS, but as soon as the DVD comes out, I buy it and binge watch the remainder as soon as possible. This year, I thought I would try to savor the last season, and watch as they aired.  Well, I managed to hold off for one week, and then on Monday, I purchased the DVD.   I watched episodes 6-8 on Monday afternoon/evening, and then watched the final Christmas episode tonight.  I wanted to share some of my thoughts about the final episodes {but with NO SPOILERS}. First, I think that they showed us all that is Downton in all of it's glory.  By that I mean, each character seemed to take us on along a path that is quintessentially "them"...We saw them each at a low, but also at a high.  From Daisy to Thomas, to Lady Crawley to the Dowager Countess, to Lady Mary to Lady Edith....

Pinch me, I have to be dreaming...

Pinch me, I have to be dreaming... is my beloved Gilmore Girls really being revived on Netflix for 4- 90 minute "movies"?  I can hardly think of anything that would have made me happier this week {well short of winning the lotto, world peace, etc.}! They really got our hopes up earlier this year when Scott Patterson was on a podcast called Gilmore Guys, and hinted that everyone was on board with shooting new episodes.  Then when the cast reunited at ATX festival down in Austin this summer, they also hinted at this, though Amy Sherman-Palladino said "nothing was in the works, but the good news is everyone gets along so it was possible" (kinda paraphrasing her here). When Variety hit with the news on Monday, I was skeptical, but then the non-confirmation-confirmations started rolling in, and I was on cloud 9. and even our former Secretary of State weighed in... So here is what I feel like I HAVE to see in the new episodes: (1) Luke & ...

Mindy Kaling Day

You know how people always talk about the five people they'd have as dinner guests if they could have anyone?  Well, I can tell you, for sure , that Mindy Kaling would be one of my five.  I love her.  She is smart.  She is funny.  She is stylish.  She would be the perfect dinner guest. This week I'm celebrating Mindy Kaling Tuesday because it's a big day for Mindy lovers everywhere.  First, her much awaited second book is being released today. Second, her show The Mindy Project is launching it's 4th season over on hulu.  Fox didn't pick it up, but smartly hulu did.  So I'll be getting a hulu subscription so I can watch the one show that makes me laugh the hardest. It's not too late to get on board as a Mindy fan.  If you haven't watched The Mindy Project, seasons 1-3 are streaming on hulu (seasons 2 and 3 are better than 1, so stick with it).  If you haven't read Mindy's first book, I recommend it too.
