The Day I Lost My Mind

I've never been a black friday early morning shopper.  Door Busters were never my cup of tea.  Partly because growing up at least an hour from anything, getting to a store at dark thirty just wasn't anything we were going to do.  Since moving to a place where stores are closer, I still haven't gotten up for the chaos.  Mostly because my alarm goes off and I decide that sleep is better than crowds and deals. Yesterday, things started opening in the evening.  I had bought a gift for someone last week at Target, and Target was now offering a $20 gift card if you bought the said item.  So I decided that "I'd just run right out and buy another one".  Ha ha ha ha! Luckily, Jennifer and her sister had decided to hit up Toys R Us at 8:00 only to never make it inside.  They abandoned that ship and went and got in line at Target.  When I got there, I cut in line with them.  Let me describe the scene (if you are familiar with Super Target's t...

Happy Thanksgiving?

I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving.  Mine was okay.  I'm not going to give it any higher marks than just okay.  Here's a wrap up of my Thanksgiving (note: it is going to sound an awful lot like complaining, but really, it's just the facts folks). On Monday, I was trying to get things wrapped up so I could go home on Wednesday.  My mom's birthday is mid-December, so I wanted to get her birthday present and bring it home, so I wouldn't have to ship it.  I went over to Neiman's, got her present, and then on the way home, BAM! I got sick.  I thought it was allergies, and maybe it is, but I have felt like total crap-ola ever since.  Tuesday was kind of a blur.  I had morning class and night class.  I lost my voice while lecturing in each.  I still felt bad, so I prepared nothing for my trip home. Wednesday morning I got up, did some packing and was about to wrap my Mom's present when I got a phone call that my grandfather was on th...

A Litany of Things...

Here I am again.  I haven't blogged in forever.  I don't know what my problem is.  Strike that.  I do know what my problem is.  I've been busy and tired.  I know that it's a common problem with everyone this time of year.  Here's what I've been up to... A couple of weekends ago, I went to see my cousin Gracie perform in Guys & Dolls.  It was a great show and she did a super job.  Those kids have been practicing every hour they weren't in school for months now.  The photography was pretty hard in there because it was dark and everyone was always dancing and moving, but here are a few shots I got of our Gracie girl... The day after I attended Guys & Dolls , Jennifer and I decided to do a speedy version of a Canton trip.  We were there by 8:30 a.m. and we were leaving my 11:30 a.m.  Since it was Sunday and the last market day before Thanksgiving, we lucked into some Thanksgiving decor steals and deals.  I got t...

Thanksgiving Decorations and Recipes

While I'd like to get started decking the halls for Christmas right after Halloween as I've been known to do in year's past, I'm trying to not skip over Thanksgiving.  The problem is that I don't have a ton of Thanksgiving decorations because when it is time to think Thanksgiving, the stores are thinking Christmas!  Next year I will try to be better...I'm on the lookout for a couple of turkeys (of course I have specific ones in mind).  Here are the Thanksgiving decorations in my house... The mantle tweaked from Halloween With the addition of pilgrims and Indians and a cornucopia The dining table is the same as it was for Halloween but the Kitchen table has a different center piece a new purchase of turkey parts has enabled me to turn this pumpkin into a turkey The front door flag a very pumpkin welcome... I also wanted to share a couple of my favorite side dishes for Thanksgiving.  They will both change your life.  Make them.  Make them now.  Ma...
