Feeling Like Fall Should HURRY UP Already!

We are less than a week out from October and I am feeling like Fall needs to hurry it the heck up!  I guess I should be grateful that the 10 day forecast appears to be in the 80's (with heat index in the 90's I assume) instead of the upper 90's and feeling over 100', but I'm too busy dreaming of cooler temps. I've geared up for Fall and I'm ready to wear something other than what I've been wearing since April.  Since we have a little way to go, I'll show you some new Fall items I've purchased for wearing now, and some for when my cooler temps really come... The first thing you can transition to Fall in Texas is makeup.  Yes, you may still sweat it off, but you can at least sweat off a new Fall pallet of colors.  I have far too much makeup, so I was good and didn't buy any new eye colors, but I did buy 3 new colors of my favorite lipstick in the world.  I've said it before, but Tom Ford is the king of lipsticks.  They are stupid expen...

Booties for Fall

Do you ever just get a bee in your bonnet and decide that you cannot live without a certain fashion item?  I sure do.  Friday night, the bee in my bonnet was black suede booties.  Why on earth I decided that I couldn't live the weekend without some black suede booties, I have no idea.  I mean, it's not like the temps are even cool enough to wear something like that in Texas for another couple of months, but I decided I couldn't live without them, and went on an internet search.  I had earned a DSW rewards certificate, plus they sent out another coupon for this labor day weekend, so I looked there first.  I located several pair at my local store, in my size (which is a miracle), and headed out on Saturday morning to try and locate this item I couldn't live without. I tried on several pair, and here are some of them... This was the pair I went with my eye on.  It's by Adrienne Vittadini and is called "Truman". Here it is in grey, which is ver...

DIY Boot Shapers

Do you have tall boots that flop over, or won't stand up on the shelf or bottom of your closet?  I had this problem a few years ago, and I went to my go-to place for organization, The Container Store, for a solution.  The solutions I found were kinda pricey though, so I set out to find a cheaper solution to my problem.  I have been using my DIY Boot Shapers for a couple of years, and they work great, so I'm sharing it with you today. It's the perfect time of year to share this secret because...  (1) You need pool noodles for this project, (2) pool noodles become hard to find in fall and winter months, and (3) pool noodles are currently on sale! I have always purchased my noodles at Walmart.  Specifically, the monster noodles.  I think they work best because they are bigger around than the regular pool noodles.  They usually run about $8, which is still reasonable because you get 2 sets of shapers out of each noodle, so $4 per set doesn't sound to...

THE Sale wrap-up

Sorry!  I've been mostly absent from the blog since getting home from vacation. Strike my blogging absence up to the following: June through early July~ I was teaching two summer school classes in addition to my full time job of being a lawyer, and well, I was meeting myself coming and going. End of June through current day ~ my law partner is on maternity leave until after Labor Day, so double duty on the legal front has me hopping. Enough of my excuses...I realized that my favorite holiday, aka: The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, has come and gone and I didn't mention a word about it.  Now don't for a minute think that means I didn't celebrate the Anniversary.  Of course, I've gone to the store multiple times, and placed more online orders than I'd like to count.  After lots of buying, returning, buying some more, and more returning, I think I came away with some good fall/winter staples. Here's what I got... I got this Halogen long open cardigan...

A Gift to Myself

When I teach an express class each semester, I like to buy myself a reward present for completing it without having to enter rehab for exhaustion during or after the class.  You know, that's a thing that celebrities do.  I'm pretty sure in the normal world, that's called a vacation, but I digress. Anyway, it's really not that bad.  I think the dread of giving up 3 weekends, and teaching 17 hours over the course of less than 48 hours, is the worst part.  I've been teaching the last 2 weekends, and today I start my 3rd and final weekend. This semester, the express class happened to coincide with the end of the regular semester, which means I've also been pretty busy wrapping up things for my other two regular semester classes.  Add all that to the past 3 weeks of my actual full-time job practicing law being insanely busy, and well, I feel like I deserve a reward. I usually like to buy myself something that I might not purchase on a regular basis.  I hav...

Pumped Up Kicks

I bought some new shoes today.  I know that's really not a shocker, but this next bit of information will be.  Make sure you are sitting down.  At some point this afternoon after I got home, I came to the realization that it is March 1st and these are the first pair of shoes I have purchased in 2012!  How the heck did that happen?  As if to overcompensate, I broke my shoe-fast with a completely impractical pair of kicks. The color is what makes them impractical.  They had the same shoe in a bone shade, but I liked these best. I have a jacket this exact color, so that's at least one thing I can wear them with.  I'm sure I will discovered many other occasions to wear them as well. They are Calvin Klein, but I got them at TJ Maxx, so they didn't set me back too much. Lola, my little snoop, had to give them a sniff and her vote of approval!
