What's your favorite?

Okay, so though I've been resistant, I'm finally blogging about the passing of Michael Jackson. It isn't that I haven't thought it was noteworthy, I've just been on M.J. overload. You turn on the news and all you see is MJ coverage. You pull up CNN or MSNBC on the internet and all you see is MJ coverage. I ask my students about current events and all they know is the MJ coverage. It's been driving me a little bit nuts!

I mean did you know that North Korea fired off some more missiles? Have you heard the latest on Iran? What about Honduras and their coup? I mean they ran their president out in his pajamas. That's pretty darn funny if nothing else. Have you been able to keep up with the nuclear weapon talks in Russia? I think you get my point.

So I watched the memorial service today (not like I had lots of choices if the tv was on, that is what was playing on every channel). I liked MJ back in the day, but I haven't really been a fan for years now. I wasn't really overcome with emotion over his passing, but I will say that my heart hurts for his children.

So now I'm thinking, what are my favorite MJ tunes? Lots of people have been thinking about this, right? I know Jennifer just noted today that possibly pigs are flying somewhere because she and the Reverend Al Sharpton have agreed on something...their favorite MJ song is "Man in the Mirror".

Obviously, I LOVED "We Are the World". Being a child of the 80's, that is one of the songs that I think would have to play in the songbook of my life.

After a few minutes on itunes, I've narrowed it down and here are my favorite 5 MJ songs in no particular order:

(1) Billie Jean

(2) Rock with You

(3) Man in the Mirror

(4) Dirty Diana

(5) Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough

I think if forced, my favorite of the five is probably "Dirty Diana". So this poses the question...What is (are) your favorite(s)?

Well, it's official....I still have nothing in common with Al Sharpton. :) For some reason, I never really liked Man in the Mirror.

My all-time fave, and probably the only song I REALLY like is Beat It. If I had to pick two more, I'd pick Dirty Diana and Don't Stop Til You Get Enough.

In no particular order, Billie Jean, Smooth Criminal, We are the World, and Wanna Be Starting Something. I am not sure that I know much of what he did in the last 10 -15 years.

I dread the continuing media coverage over the coming months as the custody/will/$$$ battle drags on and on and on...
