Wednesday's List

(1) Have you looked at Southern Living for July? The recipes in this one edition are to die for...Grilled Shrimp Gumbo Salad, Okra-and-Corn Maque Choux, several kinds of Margaritas, several versions of Chicken Salad and several kinds of ice cream including Peach and Toasted Pecan! Lord help me!

(2) I. AM. IN. PAIN. Now that the splint is off and I'm using my hand, it HURTS. I was warned it might ache, but this is seriously the worst pain I've been in yet!

(3) Yesterday I was talking to my friend Suz on the phone. Her little guy, Bennett, who just turned 4, wanted to talk to me on the phone. He's my bud. Anyway, he asked how my "thumb" was and I told him it was better (no need to scare the kid with the litany of adjectives I could have used to describe it), and then he said "Next time you use a knife to cut something, you should be very, very careful". I thanked him and told him that was very good advise. Seriously, how cute is that?

(4) I sold my old fairy godmother yesterday for only $50 less than what I paid for my new one!

(5) AT&T may be sending me another new phone. Seriously. I never got the e-mail like everyone else saying that mine shipped, though clearly it did, because I have it. Then today, I got an e-mail saying that they were sorry for the delay, but due to the popularity of the new iphone, people were having to wait, and they'd notify me when my phone shipped.

(6) I just remembered to decorate for the 4th yesterday! Then if that wasn't bad enough, I thought I owned decorations that I apparently don't have (guess I had seen them somewhere but didn't buy them) and forgot about some that I do have (I had to look at photos from last year to remember them). I'm totally losing it! I'll post pics tomorrow...

Swiss Oatmeal {Copy Cat Recipe}

I'm obsessed with Swiss Oatmeal.  I particularly love  Corner Bakery's Swiss Oatmeal.  If you are not familiar with Swiss Oatmeal, it is a cold oatmeal cereal with fruit and nuts.

I've had a similar recipe for years, but it was only similar.  It wasn't close enough for my liking.  So I finally set out into the land of Pinterest to find a recipe that was a good Copy Cat.  I found a few, combined them and came up with what I think is a very close Copy Cat Recipe of Corner Bakery's Swiss Oatmeal.

Here's what I do (note, this recipe is really just pictures, because I don't really have measurements for these things.  The photos aren't great, but it's easier if I show you what I do)...

Here's the Phase 1ingredients... Milk Honey Yogurt (I use a vanilla greek yogurt) Oats (old fashioned, not quick...you probably could do steel cut too) I've simplified this to where you only need a bowl and a spoon for Phase 1 because I use my yogurt cup as a meas…

It's all about the dress...

I mean I guess it's really all about getting married, but come on, you always anticipate the dress right?  Well holy moly folks!  Today a big secret was released to the press.  No, we still don't know which dress or tiara Kate will be wearing, but we heard for the first time that Princess Diana had a back-up dress!  Here are some of the pictures and sketches...

Real dress on Left~ Back-up on the Right Here are the sketches of the back-up dress

And you know what?  I like the back-up dress better than the one she wore!  I know, I know.  I'm going to get blasted for saying that, but I'll just confess it right now... My name is Kara and I've never thought Princess Diana's dress was all that and a bag of chips.  Nope.  Not my favorite Royal Wedding Dress by any stretch of the imagination.  What is my favorite?  Probably the one that Sarah Ferguson wore when she married Andrew...
It had beautiful beading and stitching throughout.  Also on the train it had an "A&quo…

Pumpkins, Gourds & Flowers, oh my!

Yesterday, I went to the Dallas Arboretum.  Lisa, Jennifer, and I went as my birthday outing.  We got a late start due to some court delays, so we stopped for lunch first.  I needed some make-up too, so we went to Neimans.  We ogled some purses, had lunch, I got some make-up and then we headed out to the arboretum (in the rain).

It was raining pretty good on the way over, but luckily, we only needed umbrellas for a few minutes.  Thankfully the sun never came out, because it was so humid, I'm pretty sure we would have melted.

First, we made our way toward the Pumpkin Village...

I love how they made garland out of the mini-pumpkins...

These rose bushes were just stunning!  The roses on each bush varied in color from a coral, to a blush, to a purple hue...
It was Fall at the arboretum, and pumpkins, gourds, and mums are a large part of the visit.  However, they also have a Chihuly art exhibition going on.  I took so many pictures, I HAVE to make that it's whole separate post.  …
