Random Tuesday Thoughts

(1) Status of Allergy Assault 2010:  My head is less congested, but now I've got borderline bronchitis.  This is no surprise.  It always goes this way for me.  Good news is that I go from over production of snot, to bronchitis, and then next step is usually well.

(2) Lola is having some allergy issues too.  It's such a double edged sword...if she is outside she is too busy to lick her paws, but the more she is outside the more she wants to lick.  What's a puppy mom to do?

(3) The weather has been great, but I've felt too bad, or have known that being outside in all the pollen would be too bad for me to really go out and enjoy it.

(4) I'm seriously disliking one of my classes.  I don't like it when I have a bad attitude about one whole group of students, but these kids are seriously ticking me off!

(5) I am SO ready for the time to change.  It is so darn dark in the mornings when I have to go to class early.

(6) I went into CVS yesterday to get some more drugs.  I like to shop around and see how many combinations of things I can take all at once!  I asked if I could get the flu mist there.  They said no, but I could get a shot.  I hate flu shots.  They hurt so bad.  I usually have a whole year to get over it, but as you know less than 5 months ago I had to get that tetanus shot that HURT BEYOND BAD.  So now, I haven't had my normal time to "get over it".  The girl at CVS said, "Do you want to get a shot?".  I say, "NO!  I have to prepare myself."  She looks at me a little perplexed and said, "Do you want me to get the pharmacist to give you a shot?".  To which I reply AGAIN, "NO!  I said I have to get myself mentally prepared!  I'm not there today!".  She thinks I'm nuts.  Maybe I am.

(7) A couple of weeks ago, when the temperatures were still hotter than I wanted them to be, and I was beyond ready for summer to end, I decided to put an end to my summer nail color.  I normally go to this darker brown color and then after about 6-8 weeks of that, I transition into my dark purple blackish color I wear all winter.  But for some reason, I skipped right to the Lincoln Park After Dark (Dark purple/blackish).  It just didn't feel right.  It was too much too quick.  Now, I've got on my "Oh to be 25 Again!" and all seems right in the world...

Finally, I'm going to be doing another giveaway at some point this week, so keep checking back!

I forgot to tell you...if you ever need a shot come deal with Brian's nurses. They are use to dealing with my kind of crazy all the time. I have to act brave in front of the kids but I'm a total fruit case when they leave the room!

Swiss Oatmeal {Copy Cat Recipe}

I'm obsessed with Swiss Oatmeal.  I particularly love  Corner Bakery's Swiss Oatmeal.  If you are not familiar with Swiss Oatmeal, it is a cold oatmeal cereal with fruit and nuts.

I've had a similar recipe for years, but it was only similar.  It wasn't close enough for my liking.  So I finally set out into the land of Pinterest to find a recipe that was a good Copy Cat.  I found a few, combined them and came up with what I think is a very close Copy Cat Recipe of Corner Bakery's Swiss Oatmeal.

Here's what I do (note, this recipe is really just pictures, because I don't really have measurements for these things.  The photos aren't great, but it's easier if I show you what I do)...

Here's the Phase 1ingredients... Milk Honey Yogurt (I use a vanilla greek yogurt) Oats (old fashioned, not quick...you probably could do steel cut too) I've simplified this to where you only need a bowl and a spoon for Phase 1 because I use my yogurt cup as a meas…

It's all about the dress...

I mean I guess it's really all about getting married, but come on, you always anticipate the dress right?  Well holy moly folks!  Today a big secret was released to the press.  No, we still don't know which dress or tiara Kate will be wearing, but we heard for the first time that Princess Diana had a back-up dress!  Here are some of the pictures and sketches...

Real dress on Left~ Back-up on the Right Here are the sketches of the back-up dress

And you know what?  I like the back-up dress better than the one she wore!  I know, I know.  I'm going to get blasted for saying that, but I'll just confess it right now... My name is Kara and I've never thought Princess Diana's dress was all that and a bag of chips.  Nope.  Not my favorite Royal Wedding Dress by any stretch of the imagination.  What is my favorite?  Probably the one that Sarah Ferguson wore when she married Andrew...
It had beautiful beading and stitching throughout.  Also on the train it had an "A&quo…

Pumpkins, Gourds & Flowers, oh my!

Yesterday, I went to the Dallas Arboretum.  Lisa, Jennifer, and I went as my birthday outing.  We got a late start due to some court delays, so we stopped for lunch first.  I needed some make-up too, so we went to Neimans.  We ogled some purses, had lunch, I got some make-up and then we headed out to the arboretum (in the rain).

It was raining pretty good on the way over, but luckily, we only needed umbrellas for a few minutes.  Thankfully the sun never came out, because it was so humid, I'm pretty sure we would have melted.

First, we made our way toward the Pumpkin Village...

I love how they made garland out of the mini-pumpkins...

These rose bushes were just stunning!  The roses on each bush varied in color from a coral, to a blush, to a purple hue...
It was Fall at the arboretum, and pumpkins, gourds, and mums are a large part of the visit.  However, they also have a Chihuly art exhibition going on.  I took so many pictures, I HAVE to make that it's whole separate post.  …
