Building Houses

Lisa, Jennifer and I had our Christmas get-together last night.  We decided to avoid the crowds and just ordered Pei Wei to go.  We ate dinner here at my house and then we decorated Gingerbread Houses.  If we were giving out awards, Jennifer would have won for fastest AND the messiest decorator...
I learned that I'm the slowest.  I ended up taking so long, I just slapped some stuff together to finish.  Next year, maybe I'll build one by myself and spend as many hours on it as I want and see if it turns out any better looking.

Here are our finished houses...

I've received so many wonderful gifts from my friends this week that I could just call it good for Christmas (I won't, but I'm just saying I could).  I've received gift cards from Barnes & Noble to use with the Nook I'm getting from my parents.  I got a Sephora gift card too.  I got a garlic press, which I have mentioned that I needed at least a hundred times.  I got this adorable Lilly Pulitzer bag that matches the case I'm getting for my Nook and it has a neat little waterproof zipper pouch for my Nook...
I also got this adorable ice/drink bucket. Isn't it cute?

I've got such awesome friends!  Not because they got me great gifts, but because they really are the best (they just happen to also be amazing gift buyers!).  I'm so excited that I have been able to spend time with almost all of my close friends this week (if only I could I Dream of Jeannie blink myself to North Carolina to see you Jenn!)

Swiss Oatmeal {Copy Cat Recipe}

I'm obsessed with Swiss Oatmeal.  I particularly love  Corner Bakery's Swiss Oatmeal.  If you are not familiar with Swiss Oatmeal, it is a cold oatmeal cereal with fruit and nuts.

I've had a similar recipe for years, but it was only similar.  It wasn't close enough for my liking.  So I finally set out into the land of Pinterest to find a recipe that was a good Copy Cat.  I found a few, combined them and came up with what I think is a very close Copy Cat Recipe of Corner Bakery's Swiss Oatmeal.

Here's what I do (note, this recipe is really just pictures, because I don't really have measurements for these things.  The photos aren't great, but it's easier if I show you what I do)...

Here's the Phase 1ingredients... Milk Honey Yogurt (I use a vanilla greek yogurt) Oats (old fashioned, not quick...you probably could do steel cut too) I've simplified this to where you only need a bowl and a spoon for Phase 1 because I use my yogurt cup as a meas…

It's all about the dress...

I mean I guess it's really all about getting married, but come on, you always anticipate the dress right?  Well holy moly folks!  Today a big secret was released to the press.  No, we still don't know which dress or tiara Kate will be wearing, but we heard for the first time that Princess Diana had a back-up dress!  Here are some of the pictures and sketches...

Real dress on Left~ Back-up on the Right Here are the sketches of the back-up dress

And you know what?  I like the back-up dress better than the one she wore!  I know, I know.  I'm going to get blasted for saying that, but I'll just confess it right now... My name is Kara and I've never thought Princess Diana's dress was all that and a bag of chips.  Nope.  Not my favorite Royal Wedding Dress by any stretch of the imagination.  What is my favorite?  Probably the one that Sarah Ferguson wore when she married Andrew...
It had beautiful beading and stitching throughout.  Also on the train it had an "A&quo…

Pumpkins, Gourds & Flowers, oh my!

Yesterday, I went to the Dallas Arboretum.  Lisa, Jennifer, and I went as my birthday outing.  We got a late start due to some court delays, so we stopped for lunch first.  I needed some make-up too, so we went to Neimans.  We ogled some purses, had lunch, I got some make-up and then we headed out to the arboretum (in the rain).

It was raining pretty good on the way over, but luckily, we only needed umbrellas for a few minutes.  Thankfully the sun never came out, because it was so humid, I'm pretty sure we would have melted.

First, we made our way toward the Pumpkin Village...

I love how they made garland out of the mini-pumpkins...

These rose bushes were just stunning!  The roses on each bush varied in color from a coral, to a blush, to a purple hue...
It was Fall at the arboretum, and pumpkins, gourds, and mums are a large part of the visit.  However, they also have a Chihuly art exhibition going on.  I took so many pictures, I HAVE to make that it's whole separate post.  …
