Yesterday was a very busy day. I went to my 7 & 8 am classes. I went to court and was in a hearing until about 10:30. Then I rushed home, changed clothes and drove to downtown Dallas to the hospital where my grandmother was having surgery at noon. I came home late yesterday afternoon and then had class again at 7 last night.
For whatever reason (I'm sure it had nothing to do with exhaustion), I remember pulling into my driveway last night at an odd angle and maneuvering to get into the garage. I noticed that I was really too close to the edge on the driver's side and specifically remember thinking "I'll have to remember that in the morning when I'm pulling out."
This morning I was beyond tired, but had court so of course I got up, got ready, and got all the trash together and hauled out to the curb for trash-day. In addition to those tasks, I got a phone call from a client who was hysterically crying because (1) her ride fell through so she couldn't make it to court (2nd time in 3 court settings this has happened) and (2) her grandfather was in the hospital. I yelled at her, told her to calm the heck down so that I could carry on a conversation with her.
I went to get in my car and was kind of in a hurry and I guess was going too darn fast as I pulled out and was looking in my rear-view mirror so that I could miss the trash bins and...
yep, you've guessed it....
nailed the side of the middle divider thing as I backed out. Now, I've done this before (I mean, there is only about 3 inches of clearance between my mirror and the wall on each side), but I guess I'm usually not going that fast and the mirror moves each direction and is some sort of plastic-y material, so it's never mattered. I've even come to learn that whatever paint rubs off from the house to the plastic comes right off with a Mr. Clean Magic-Eraser. But today, a Mr. Clean Eraser alone wouldn't do the trick. Nope, because this happened...
Shattered! Turns out, a piece of glass can be ordered. It normally costs about $40, but because my mirror has a blinker arrow included, yeah, that will be $227 to get it replaced. Awesome. Just awesome.
I'm totally bummed, but really I am thankful that I didn't scrape the whole darn side of the car! I went down to Dallas to check on my grandma today and noticed that it is very difficult to drive without a side mirror, so I'm having that puppy replaced tomorrow morning.
If I didn't have bad luck, I'd have no luck at all!

If it makes you feel any better you can be glad you didn't do what I did a week ago. I hit a 6 point buck going 55mph in my Escalade. $9,000 in damage.
