I took the day off yesterday and went to Canton with Jennifer and Lisa. It was pretty crowded, but it was tolerable. At one point the cart was loaded down and we were seriously a wide load, so the crowd made getting around pretty difficult. It was HOT in some of those buildings too. In my opinion, it should not be over 75 degrees in Spring, but this is Texas, so my opinion doesn't really count.
Anyway, I'll report on my good finds later, this post has another point. When I got home, I immediately went and let Lola out, because she had been inside ALL day long. I just opened the door, let her out and then went out front to unload my Canton loot. After everything was unloaded and everyone was gone, I went to let Lola back in. She came right in, but then I looked out at my oak tree in the back yard. What did I see? A million bees!

They were all hanging off of a tree limb. I guess one hangs on to the limb and then the next one hangs on to that bee and so on. The cluster of bees was about 18 inches long and about 12 inches in width. That's a lot of darn bees!
I wasn't sure what to do. I called and left messages for both the city and county animal control. Finally, they called back and gave me the number of a bee keeper. I called and the person I spoke with said that they were just temporarily using my tree as a hang out. Apparently new Queens hatch in the spring and they start looking for a new place to live. They hang out somewhere (like my tree) and send out adult scout bees to look for their new home. The scouts come back when they've found their next location, tell the group and they all leave. She said it should only be a day or two.
After I got off the phone, I decided that I would take a photo so that I could show you guys. I went and got my camera and went to the door to open it a crack to take the photo, when I noticed several started flying around. Then I just watched through the window and they all started flying around. They swarmed the yard for several minutes and then they were gone.
I'm bummed I didn't get a photo, but thankful that they haven't come back! It was certainly the last thing I expected to find when I got home yesterday!
