My Favorite Sale

I've been anxiously awaiting the mail on a daily basis for about a week now.  I knew any day something exciting was coming, and it finally came on Monday...

I flipped through it immediately.  In addition to the catalog, I was provided with a secret code that allowed me to log onto the website and look at everything that is going to be on sale.  I called Lisa to report that the sale was near.  Here's our conversation:

Me:  There are several things that I think I might have to request for my birthday or Christmas.
Lisa:  Well you know your Mom likes to get her shopping done early.
Me:  It's just so exciting, it's one of my favorite holidays
Lisa: What? Your birthday?
Me: No!  Nordstrom's Anniversary Sale!
Lisa:  Is that a holiday now?

I plan to get the necessities:  I always get my year's supply of Spanx.  I also need some new bras.  Not exciting, but it is great that my bras are $26 cheaper on the sale than any other time of year.

Non-necessities on my list may include:

Uggs.  I think these are so cute, and I didn't buy any new Uggs last year!

Barefoot Dreams wrap.  I have always longed to have their robe (which is on sale too BTW), but I don't really like robes.  I do think I'd use this wrap though.

I was happy to see that it appears riding boots and leggings are still in style for fall, but I'm a little unnerved by the fact that it appears we are going back to the "grunge" era...lace up military style boots, etc.  I mean, isn't it a little soon for that look to come back?  It was just the 90's like, yesterday, right?  Plus, I don't really think that was a good look that needs to be comin' around again.

I'm the exact same way. I look forward to the anniversary sale all year long! I've got some of my favorite clothes/shoes from that sale, and since it's a Seattle based company it's basically like I'm supporting the local Seattle economy, right? Right. Haha!

I don't suppose this sale will still be going on when I come to visit you?

Swiss Oatmeal {Copy Cat Recipe}

I'm obsessed with Swiss Oatmeal.  I particularly love  Corner Bakery's Swiss Oatmeal.  If you are not familiar with Swiss Oatmeal, it is a cold oatmeal cereal with fruit and nuts.

I've had a similar recipe for years, but it was only similar.  It wasn't close enough for my liking.  So I finally set out into the land of Pinterest to find a recipe that was a good Copy Cat.  I found a few, combined them and came up with what I think is a very close Copy Cat Recipe of Corner Bakery's Swiss Oatmeal.

Here's what I do (note, this recipe is really just pictures, because I don't really have measurements for these things.  The photos aren't great, but it's easier if I show you what I do)...

Here's the Phase 1ingredients... Milk Honey Yogurt (I use a vanilla greek yogurt) Oats (old fashioned, not quick...you probably could do steel cut too) I've simplified this to where you only need a bowl and a spoon for Phase 1 because I use my yogurt cup as a meas…

It's all about the dress...

I mean I guess it's really all about getting married, but come on, you always anticipate the dress right?  Well holy moly folks!  Today a big secret was released to the press.  No, we still don't know which dress or tiara Kate will be wearing, but we heard for the first time that Princess Diana had a back-up dress!  Here are some of the pictures and sketches...

Real dress on Left~ Back-up on the Right Here are the sketches of the back-up dress

And you know what?  I like the back-up dress better than the one she wore!  I know, I know.  I'm going to get blasted for saying that, but I'll just confess it right now... My name is Kara and I've never thought Princess Diana's dress was all that and a bag of chips.  Nope.  Not my favorite Royal Wedding Dress by any stretch of the imagination.  What is my favorite?  Probably the one that Sarah Ferguson wore when she married Andrew...
It had beautiful beading and stitching throughout.  Also on the train it had an "A&quo…

Pumpkins, Gourds & Flowers, oh my!

Yesterday, I went to the Dallas Arboretum.  Lisa, Jennifer, and I went as my birthday outing.  We got a late start due to some court delays, so we stopped for lunch first.  I needed some make-up too, so we went to Neimans.  We ogled some purses, had lunch, I got some make-up and then we headed out to the arboretum (in the rain).

It was raining pretty good on the way over, but luckily, we only needed umbrellas for a few minutes.  Thankfully the sun never came out, because it was so humid, I'm pretty sure we would have melted.

First, we made our way toward the Pumpkin Village...

I love how they made garland out of the mini-pumpkins...

These rose bushes were just stunning!  The roses on each bush varied in color from a coral, to a blush, to a purple hue...
It was Fall at the arboretum, and pumpkins, gourds, and mums are a large part of the visit.  However, they also have a Chihuly art exhibition going on.  I took so many pictures, I HAVE to make that it's whole separate post.  …
