I left off my last post about Day Two in Acadia, at lunch time. I had thought about having lunch in the park, at Jordan Pond House to be specific, but I had a list of the 10 best places in the Bar Harbor area for Lobster Rolls, and I decided to hit up one of those spots. I left Acadia and drove into Bar Harbor. I decided to go to Side Street Cafe. I got the Lobster Roll (of course), and I have to say that it was without a doubt my favorite meal of the trip. They use some spices on top of the lobster roll (which is controversial to the lobster roll purists out there), but I thought it was delightful.
The Side Street Cafe is in the downtown area of Bar Harbor, so after lunch, I walked around a bit and did some souvenir shopping. I went to a cute dog store called "Bark Harbor" that had adorable Maine themed dog toys. So I got Lola a new toy (just what she NEEDED)!
I found a Christmas Store where I purchased a Bar Harbor ornament for my travel christmas tree...
Here is a hand-painted ornament that I purchased earlier in the day at the store on Cadillac Mountain...
After walking around for a bit, I made my way back to Acadia to pick up on the Park Loop where I left off.
Jordan Pond was the last "big" thing that I knew I had to see along Park Loop Road. There is a nice restaurant there where you can have lunch, dinner, and afternoon tea. I parked near the Pond House because I hoped to do the Pond loop hike and then have some tea and popovers on the lawn. Ultimately, it really didn't look like they had their act together yet (early in the season still), so I only grabbed a soda and a whoopie pie to go.
Jordan Pond is beautiful
The water is so clean and clear
This is where I was totally bummed about my earlier fall that curtailed my hiking. I wanted to go around the pond much more than I was able to. I did walk along the boardwalk for a bit, and then walked along the carriage roads in the area before heading out.
After leaving Jordan Pond, I wanted to go to Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse. It's quite a drive over there because it is on the other side of the island.
This is the house attached to the lighthouse. An actual coast guard family lives here. How cool is that?
It is on the National Register of Historic Places and was built in 1858
I would have liked to climb down the rocks more to get better pics, but that seemed like a bad idea with a bum leg, and nobody else around. I wasn't particularly concerned about it though, because I had a boat trip scheduled for the next morning to go around the park on water and look at the mansions and lighthouses. I was sure I would get better views and pics then.
The foggy view from the rocks
On the drive back to bar harbor, I passed a Lobsterman's house with the cages stacked outside.
I thought everything was bigger in Texas? I loved these 16 ounce cans of soda that I found everywhere in Maine! How do we get these here?
On the drive back to Bar Harbor, I stopped and walked along the carriage roads. I love the bridges...
I went back to the downtown Bar Harbor and walked around some more, then I went back to my Motel, changed clothes, and made a plan for dinner. I decided to head off to another place on my top 10 lobster places, but I drove all the way over there, and they weren't open for the season. Ugh! They didn't open until June 25th, which seems kind of late. So I had to go to another place. I settled on Trenton Bridge Lobster Pound.
Here is where they cook them outside of the restaurant.
I had to choose my lobster. I do not like to choosing my food from living creatures! But it tasted good.
I was pretty tired at that point. It had been a busy day, and I had an early Saturday morning planned, so called it a night.
