Spring Break 2013

Last week was Spring Break from school, which really isn't nearly as fun when teaching is just a side gig and you have another full time job to do.  But this past weekend, I took a little trip out west to see friends and have a little fun. On Saturday morning, I flew to Midland.  This is Lola and me waiting for my mom for a puppy hand-off...   If you don't notice it, let me point out to you, that apparently I look very terroristic in the above pic.  I got sent through the body scanner at the airport and then patted down.  Sheesh!  I guess there are lots of blonde terrorists carrying Vera Bradley & Louis Vuitton, and wearing crocheted Tom's these days!   I got to Midland and my friend Suz and I shopped around a little bit, but we spent the better part of 5 hours planning where we are staying during an upcoming June vacation.   Sunday morning we got up and drove 2 hours to Lubbock.  We got to hit up some of our favorite spots, the first of which was Spanky

Perot Museum

Today was Lisa's birthday, and she wanted to go down to the new Perot Science Museum in downtown Dallas.  Before we left, I was trying to hustle up and finish some work, so I ran out and left my camera at home.  So, only a couple iphone pics on this post! Lisa & Jennifer in front of the museum If ever there was a doubt, that I missed my calling... If ever I had a second of thought, that instead of the law, I should have sought out science... Those doubts were dispelled today! (but let's be honest, those doubts were never really there in the first place!) I found most of it to be incredibly boring!  This giant sea turtle skeleton was pretty darn cool though.   and this guy was really big   After the museum, we went to lunch at Neiman's before heading back home.  I think the museum is really great.  Kids would probably love it, so if you have some, I'd say it was worth a trip.  It's just not really my cup of tea!  But it was

Thursday's Thoughts

{1} Royal Baby News :  the world has been buzzing about Kate's alleged slip of the tongue this week when she received a teddy bear and said "I'll give it  to my D....".  Of course everyone is assuming she was about to say "daughter" when she caught herself.  I hope that is the case.  I want Wills & Kate to have a girl.  I want this first born girl to be the future Queen without having to let later born boys supersede her.  BUT... I am just not letting myself go there.  I'm not getting my hopes up.  I'm assuming that she was about to say "I'll give it to my Dog" when she thought better of it.  She may have realized people wouldn't like her re-gifting to her dog. {2} The Bible:   Did y'all watch part one of "The Bible"?  I thought it was pretty good.  Here are my thoughts: ~I greatly enjoyed the burning bush that Moses saw.  It reminded me of these Chihuly pieces...     ~The ancient egyptians look pre

Cooking with Pinterest

This semester, I'm not teaching any night classes.  I teach in the daytime (I kind of take a long lunch two days a week), and then I'll have another one of those weekend classes that lasts 3 weekends in April.  I haven't had every night free in almost 5 years !  I'm finally getting used to actually keeping food in the house to cook dinner every night.   Being sick of the same old stuff, I've been hitting Pinterest up for new ideas.  The past 2 weeks I've had great success as finding good things to cook.  Here are 3 of the thumbs up recipes: (1) I like to cook several things that need cooked chicken as a base.  I tend to either boil the chicken, or put it in the crock pot to cook, but then it just tastes so blah.  I ran across this recipe for a great way to cook chicken with flavor... (2) I have been having a real craving for Broccoli Beef and this was a good recipe ... (3) I made this recipe for Lasagna Rolls, but I tweaked it.  I followed t
