Friday Five

I often see Friday Five on blogs, so today I'm jumping on the bandwagon, if for no other reason, than to give some organization to my all-over-the-place thoughts for the day. {1} Movies I can't recall the last time I went to see a movie.  There have been several over the past couple of months that I've wanted to go see, but with summer school, and then my fall semester starting (complete with weekend express class), I just never got there.   Today, I got up, got a bit of work done, and headed out to the Angelika in Plano to see "Enough Said".  I went to the 10 a.m. showing.  It seemed best to go before too much came up to get in the way, or I decided I was just too tired to go.  I really enjoyed it, but I couldn't shake the sadness over it being some of the last work of James Gandolfini that we will see. I also really want to see "Austenland".  I've read the book, and I'm all about all-things-Austen. There were also se...

Lubbock Weekend

I went to Lubbock this past weekend to see some friends and attend the Texas Tech vs. Texas State football game.  Here's my weekend in iphone photos (because I never got my real camera out of the case!): Driving West Cotton fields for as far as the eye could see Tailgating from the best spot in Lubbock (that the west side of Jones Stadium) The field before the game.  Taken from our great seats. Before the game festivities... The Goin' Band from Raiderland The Masked Rider The new jumbo-tron is awesome! The players coming onto the field Me, Ann, & Robin pre-game  After a touchdown  Coach Kliff It wasn't a pretty win, but at least it was a win!

TV Time

It's TV Time!  That's right, last night was the Emmy Awards and tonight new TV starts back up. First a little about the Emmy's:  I thought they were terrible!  I'm a huge award show fan, and I can deal with just about anything, but I was not into it last night.  I thought they were all over the place,  and really just seemed like the Neil Patrick Harris show. I was so happy about a few of the winners though.  First, Merrit Wever won for best supporting actress in a comedy.  She plays Nurse Zoey Barkow, in Nurse Jackie .  She's always been wonderful, but I especially loved her this past season.  A much deserved Emmy for her! Second, Jeff Daniels won for the role of newscaster Will McAvoy in The Newsroom .   The Newsroom  is one of my very favorite shows.  It just ended it's second season run on HBO (I may have already watched the finale 3 times and still have it on my DVR for future views).  It was a tough category wi...

We Need a Little Christmas...

Well, at least I need a little Christmas.  I know lots of people are griping about Christmas being out in the stores already, but I'm someone who loves it.  I love it because: (1) It's still hot as blazes outside, so seeing some Christmas stock in the stores gives me hope that cooler weather is on its way. (2) I've been looking at Christmas card options for at least a month at this point, so it means, I'm a little less nuts to be doing it now. (3) Christmas decorations make me happy. I took advantage of Hobby Lobby's Christmas display to get a couple of adorable ornaments for my Kitchen Christmas tree... I'm seriously in love with this mixer!

Quick Door Decor

I went to Hobby Lobby last week, and as I walked down one of the aisles, some cute wooden letters with metal accents caught my eye.  I immediately thought that they would make cute non-seasonal door decor, but since they weren't on sale, I decided to wait until this when when they would be. Today I went back and got a letter, plus some burlap ribbon to hang it on.  It took less than 10 minutes to put together and turned out pretty cute, if I do say so myself!   Each letter in the alphabet appear to come in these three colors...   They are lightweight and they hang easily.  I got the red for my mom.  It will work nicely on her door.  They have a glass storm door over their front door, so wreaths don't hang very well because they are too thick.   I'm thinking that for myself, I might make a burlap wreath, and hang this letter in the middle.  But that will be at some point in the future, when I have a little mor...
