JFK 50 years ago...

Today, the country remembers a tragedy from 50 years ago.  I have been engrossed in all the television specials commemorating the assassination of a President so many years ago.  I think this is such an important time, because this is the last "big commemoration" where we will be able hear from the aging doctors, reporters, secret service agents, etc. who have such intimate knowledge of the events from November 22, 1963. For so many of us, we only know these dark days of our history from stories told by our parents, grandparents, and great grandparents.  For me, I know my Mom talks about sitting in her elementary school class and hearing the announcement.  She talks about how terrible they all felt because the President had been killed in Texas.  My great-grandmother always told how she heard the news while she was in the beauty salon getting her hair done because they were suppose to be attending an event with Kennedy that night.  Everyone has their own...

Kara Goes to Washington, D.C. {last day, plus Fall Foliage}

I certainly didn't plan this trip (like at all), but if I had, I couldn't have picked a better time to go to DC and enjoy the gorgeous fall foliage.  We get a bit of fall foliage here in Texas, but the colors are not the same as in DC.  I just couldn't get enough.  Seeing these sights made me think of the quote from Ann of Green Gables , " I'm so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers. I took this pics from my phone as the cab zipped down the road... On Saturday, I got to the airport way too early, so I had the cab drive me to Alexandria, VA to look at more leaves!  I took these in Old Town Alexandria... It was such a great trip!  I feel really fortunate to have been invited to such a great event, and have had the ability t...

Kara Goes To Washington, D.C. {Day 3 ~ Friday Night}

On Friday, I took a tour called "Monuments in Moonlight".  It wasn't the exact tour I wanted to go on, but I decided it was good enough because that particular tour company picked-up and dropped-off at my hotel.  I really wish that I had taken my tripod with me to D.C.  Some of the darker spots were very difficult to photograph without it.  But I think I got some good shots anyway. The first stop was The White House. It's a little difficult to find you way, and our bus driver didn't get off of the bus.  Since I had been there earlier in the day, I was able to make my way easily.  There were some people from New Jersey on our tour (they weren't there for the Booker event...just a coincidence).  At one point, I heard them yell, "Slow down Texas!  We are all following you!"   Next stop was the Thomas Jefferson Memorial.  It has always been a favorite of mine. The next stop was a dual stop... The FD...
