Europe 2024 {Day One ~ London}

This year, I continued my tradition of visiting Europe right before Christmas.  I flew out of DFW on December 12th and landed at London's Heathrow around 7:20 a.m. on December 13th.  I was only going to be in London for a day, and had a flight out of London's Gatwick Airport early on December 14th, so that complicated things a bit. I changed clothes and freshened up in a bathroom at Heathrow after baggage claim and immigration, but before walking through border control, and then took the underground into London.   My first stop was Victoria Station to store my luggage.  There is a Left Luggage location there where you can store your luggage easily (though for a hefty fee...I think it was 36 pounds).   I didn't have much of a plan for the day other than to wander around my favorite city for a few hours so I left my big camera in my luggage and only have iPhone photos for the day.  Cath Kidston has always been a favorite stop and it closed down a few years ag...

Europe 2023 {Day Ten ~ Tallinn, Estonia}

On Wednesday, December 20th, I was up early and down at the hotel breakfast when it opened at 7:00.  I needed to be at the West Terminal by 8:15 because I had a 9:00 ferry to Tallinn.  After my previous experience with Helsinki taxi drivers, I didn't want to depend on a taxi to get me down there so I walked a few blocks to catch the tram and took the tram all the way to end of it's line which is right outside the terminal.  I arrived in Tallinn at 11:15 and once I had disembarked from the ferry, I walked about 15 minutes into the old town.  The night before, I had scanned the Tallinn pages of my Rick Steves' book into my phone so I didn't have to carry the book around, and that was very helpful.  I'm definitely going to start doing that more.  His Tallinn walk starts with the Lower Town and Fat Margaret Tower.
