A Friendly Reminder

It's Christmas Eve!   As you prepare for the arrival of the fat jolly fellow, I just wanted to post this friendly reminder... ...so prepare accordingly!   Hope you have a happy and safe Christmas Eve!

The garland {the making of}

Last year, after all the Christmas decorations got really, really cheap, I purchased a ton of ornaments.  4 different colors, different sizes, shapes, and finishes.  I had grand plans to make a new mantle garland.  I was inspired by this picture on pinterest, even though I knew I could never in a million years recreate it exactly... Source: desiretoinspire.net via Kara on Pinterest I brainstormed all year.  I tried to figure out how best to tackle this project.  At first I thought:  hot glue the balls to some sort of base.  Then I ran across the tub storing my valentine wreath and saw that the heat of the garage had not been kind to the wreath.  Then I thought about using the craft glue that I used for my Tech wreath .  Then I thought pool noodles would be the answer to a good base.  Then it came time to do it, and I decided I had lost my mind.  I then took pin-spiration from these pictures and decided to use regular ...

First Family Christmas Celebration

My uncle's family is not going to be able to come and participate in our family christmas this year, so I saw them on Monday night.  We had plans to go to the Dallas Arboretum to see Chihuly Nights.  My uncle ended up being out of town, but I was still able to go celebrate with his wife and his girls. I brought the girls a tub of cookies and their gifts from me and my parents. Gracie (13) opening one of her presents... it was a journal for her to take on her theater trip to London this spring   She like the bow!   She was super excited to get her own Chi flat iron (I think her mom was excited that she got her own too!)   Maddie (11) was more challenging to buy for.  She couldn't come up with one item for her wish list (well other than an iphone 5, and that wasn't happening)... But I think we successfully winged it with new shoes... and new pajamas...     Sweet Rosie had to get some love too... ...

Cookie Baking

I did some Christmas Cookie baking this past Sunday.  I think it just about tapped me out for the holiday season...

Cards & Wrap

I'm wrapping up the posts on decorations,etc. with a post on two of my favorite things...Christmas Cards and Wrapping! If you have been a follower for any length of time, you know that I love Christmas Cards and that I start obsessing over them in July!  Actually, this year I was much more subdued.  I think because I knew that I wanted to use the Bluebonnet pic of Lola, and I knew I wanted the card to be Navy Blue and Pink.  I figured that I could find someone off of Etsy to make me a card, so I didn't stress.  Funny how knowing you can find someone to just make your vision takes the stress out of searching and finding just the right one! I used Cara over at DeanWorks Studios .  She had so many wonderful choices that I didn't actually have to do too much "building" of a card.  I picked a card I liked, told her that I wanted the colors changed to meet my vision, and then she built a back for the card.  She sent me a "rough draft" and I said, "I...

Christmas Decorations {Outside}

My outside decorations are certainly nothing to brag about.  I think the key to having really great outside decorations (at least for me) is getting them done in the first half of November.  That way, you get it all done while you are still excited about decorations and before you start the inside of your house.  If I wait until I've done the 3 trees inside, plus everything else, then I'm just about spent by the time I get to the outside. I had big plans to do light in the shrubs, but after I plugged in the 5th strand of lights that either didn't work at all, or only half worked, I said to heck with it and scrapped that idea! Here is what I ended up with... I only did lights around the flower bed The garland around the door with lights (and Santa) and of course, my vintage-y Frosty that I got this year

Silence

Back tomorrow with more Christmas, but for today, just silence and prayers for Newtown.

Christmas Decorations {Master Bedroom & Bath}

The tree in my bedroom is the same as always.  I did all silver, white, and glass ornaments.  The only color is the bow on top which matches my bedding... I did a wreath on the mirror over my dresser this year...         In my bathroom, I added a wreath to the lantern that sits by my tub...

Christmas Decorations {Dining Room & Misc.}

This post covers my dining room and other miscellaneous area of the house.  My dining table arrangement has fruit, magnolia leaves, pine cones, and berries. The buffet has the ornament garland and reindeer  I got this Santa from my Meme.  He carries candy canes in his sack every year.  This table is located between my Kitchen and Dining Room.  Between my entry and Living Room (just across from the dining room) there is kind of a foyer area (for lack of a better term).  It has this large art niche.  It houses my Christmas Card tree this time of year...  and this little sparkly village.  The door to the garage with the feathery angel wreath  The entry table  The coat closet even needs a little Christmasing up!    The linen closet in front hall.  The guest bath... The guest bedroom Legal Santas in my home office
