Thursday's Thoughts

Nothing much going on here, so just some thoughts:

(1) I'm on Spring Break!  Yes, I have been on "school spring break" all week, so I haven't had classes, but I took Thursday and Friday off this week.  I have done an astonishing amount of nothing today!  It's been so nice.

(2) Ryan Star is opening for Bon Jovi tonight in San Antonio and I feel sad that I'm not there :-(

(3) Whenever I am watching an entertainment show, reading an entertainment website, or reading a magazine and I don't recognize a particular celebrity, I just assume they are on Glee.  'Cause you know, I'm the only person in America who doesn't watch Glee.

(4) I'm planning a Royal Wedding watch party.  It's likely to begin around 4 a.m., so that presents a few challenges.  There is an ridiculous lack of British theme party supplies available in this country!  I called my go-to party supply store down in Dallas and they came up with a few things like flags, picks, etc., but the best they came up with for napkins was "I am Queen, Get Used to It" napkins.  The chick on the phone tried to convince me they'd be "SO CUTE".  Ugh!  Puuu-leez!  Not at my royal wedding watch party!  I'm thinking I may need to make a trip over to the British Emporium and see what they've got.  Anyone interested in attending my watch party?

(5) Happy St. Patrick's Day!  I'm totally not wearing any green and didn't even put Lola's St. Patty's Day collar on, but I do have my little garden flags out and my shamrock door welcome sign.

Swiss Oatmeal {Copy Cat Recipe}

I'm obsessed with Swiss Oatmeal.  I particularly love  Corner Bakery's Swiss Oatmeal.  If you are not familiar with Swiss Oatmeal, it is a cold oatmeal cereal with fruit and nuts.

I've had a similar recipe for years, but it was only similar.  It wasn't close enough for my liking.  So I finally set out into the land of Pinterest to find a recipe that was a good Copy Cat.  I found a few, combined them and came up with what I think is a very close Copy Cat Recipe of Corner Bakery's Swiss Oatmeal.

Here's what I do (note, this recipe is really just pictures, because I don't really have measurements for these things.  The photos aren't great, but it's easier if I show you what I do)...

Here's the Phase 1ingredients... Milk Honey Yogurt (I use a vanilla greek yogurt) Oats (old fashioned, not quick...you probably could do steel cut too) I've simplified this to where you only need a bowl and a spoon for Phase 1 because I use my yogurt cup as a meas…

It's all about the dress...

I mean I guess it's really all about getting married, but come on, you always anticipate the dress right?  Well holy moly folks!  Today a big secret was released to the press.  No, we still don't know which dress or tiara Kate will be wearing, but we heard for the first time that Princess Diana had a back-up dress!  Here are some of the pictures and sketches...

Real dress on Left~ Back-up on the Right Here are the sketches of the back-up dress

And you know what?  I like the back-up dress better than the one she wore!  I know, I know.  I'm going to get blasted for saying that, but I'll just confess it right now... My name is Kara and I've never thought Princess Diana's dress was all that and a bag of chips.  Nope.  Not my favorite Royal Wedding Dress by any stretch of the imagination.  What is my favorite?  Probably the one that Sarah Ferguson wore when she married Andrew...
It had beautiful beading and stitching throughout.  Also on the train it had an "A&quo…

Pumpkins, Gourds & Flowers, oh my!

Yesterday, I went to the Dallas Arboretum.  Lisa, Jennifer, and I went as my birthday outing.  We got a late start due to some court delays, so we stopped for lunch first.  I needed some make-up too, so we went to Neimans.  We ogled some purses, had lunch, I got some make-up and then we headed out to the arboretum (in the rain).

It was raining pretty good on the way over, but luckily, we only needed umbrellas for a few minutes.  Thankfully the sun never came out, because it was so humid, I'm pretty sure we would have melted.

First, we made our way toward the Pumpkin Village...

I love how they made garland out of the mini-pumpkins...

These rose bushes were just stunning!  The roses on each bush varied in color from a coral, to a blush, to a purple hue...
It was Fall at the arboretum, and pumpkins, gourds, and mums are a large part of the visit.  However, they also have a Chihuly art exhibition going on.  I took so many pictures, I HAVE to make that it's whole separate post.  …
