Shopping

I hate to brag about myself and toot my own horn, but here I go... Apparently my shopping skills know no boundaries! Even language barriers can't keep me down!

I have been telling everyone that I wanted to go to town one day and try to find this one little store that I fell in love with last year. They have "mexican" type things like you would expect, but also some really upscale stuff. I've long since stopped with the t-shirt type of purchases on vacation and often like to buy things for my house and also usually a Christmas ornament for my kitchen tree (which has ornaments from my travels on it). Last year I purchased these gorgeous footed ice tea goblets. This was the only store that had any like them in all of P.V.

The store had many different types of glasses that matched the ones I bought, but they were kind of expensive, so I only purchased the one set. I had said that I wanted to go back and get more, but everyone has been telling me, "you'll never find that store" or "they'll never have those glasses again". Well in my head, I had worked that up into a challenge. This morning I was ready to tackle that challenge. I took me less than 5 minutes to find it!

They didn't have as many as last year because they said things have been so slow with the Swine that they haven't placed new orders. I got a set of wine glasses this year (yes I know I don't drink wine, but won't they make pretty table setting!). I also got them about $40 cheaper than I was willing to pay! Luckily the sales lady has been taking English lessons since last year, so I was able to get some additional information about them. They are made in Guadalajara special for this one store.

This store also has these beautiful oil paintings of saints. They are very expensive. Small ones start at $150 and go up. I told them maybe next year!

I also wondered through the markets some and then had lunch at my favorite downtown place... Daiquiri Dicks. It was very yummy and I brought home leftovers for a snack.

My mom was so worried about me going into town alone, but as you can see, I've made it back in one piece (though the hotel doesn't know this because my taxi just busted through the gates right behind another one and I didn't get to "check back in").

I am so excited that you got your glasses. I think that store sounds wonderful. I wish that you had gone to PV before me last year so that I too could have shopped there.

Swiss Oatmeal {Copy Cat Recipe}

I'm obsessed with Swiss Oatmeal.  I particularly love   Corner Bakery's Swiss Oatmeal.  If you are not familiar with Swiss Oatmeal, it is a cold oatmeal cereal with fruit and nuts. I've had a similar recipe for years, but it was only similar.  It wasn't close enough for my liking.  So I finally set out into the land of Pinterest to find a recipe that was a good Copy Cat.  I found a few, combined them and came up with what I think is a very close Copy Cat Recipe of Corner Bakery's Swiss Oatmeal. Here's what I do (note, this recipe is really just pictures, because I don't really have measurements for these things.  The photos aren't great, but it's easier if I show you what I do)... Here's the Phase 1 ingredients...   Milk Honey Yogurt (I use a vanilla greek yogurt) Oats (old fashioned, not quick...you probably could do steel cut too)    I've simplified this to where you only need a bowl and a spoon for Phase 1 becau
