I was very upset yesterday to hear the announcement from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences that this year they would be increasing the number of "Best Film" nominees from 5 to 10.
I of course have a bone to pick with the Academy over this for a couple of reasons:
(1) Are there seriously 10 films per year worthy of "Best Film"?
(2) Will 10 nominees split the votes too much? Will they have a run-off election?
and (3) How in the heck am I suppose to see 10 movies before the Oscars are awarded? I can't usually even get to the 5, but at least that goal seems like I might someday achieve it. 10 just seems so unattainable that I might not even try anymore!
P.S. I've finally almost finished my Oscar race for this past year. I've seen all but one, "Frost Nixon". I've had it here at my house for over a month, so maybe this weekend I will complete my "race" (ok maybe crawl at this point).
