Guest Bath Remodel

Welcome to my newly remodeled guest bath.  Here is a sneak peak of the new look before I take you through the process...

This was the before.  In the 15 years I have lived here, I had done very little.  The bathroom was carpeted when I moved in, so I took that up and did the peel and stick linoleum squares.  It also was wallpapered, and I did a make-shift texture over it and painted it a couple of times.  I also changed out the light and the mirror.

I had hired someone to do the real work of this reno, but I also did some myself.  I didn't necessarily plan on redoing the walls, but I knew that when the vanity came out, it might necessitate that.  And it did.  So I took down the wallpaper...

I also pulled up the tiles I had put down 15 years prior...

Some were a little stubborn.  I googled the best way to remove them and found that a heat gun was recommended.  I don't have a heat gun, but I do have a hairdryer and it worked like a charm!

The walls needed work, and that was an extra expense, but I got someone in to mud and texture the walls.  Then I attempted to create my "vision".  I have always loved this Schumacher Queen of Spain wallpaper.   But at $1300 a roll, it is NOT in my budget.  I found a stencil that I thought would help me achieve a similar look.  I wasn't scared of a stencil because I did one of the walls in my bedroom several years ago and had great luck with it.  This stencil was NOT GOOD.

I basically had to use the stencil as a guild and hand paint these walls.  It took about 40 hours total.  Oh yeah, and I had no light because it was removed when they worked on the walls!  I was just about cross-eyed and thought I was going to lose my mind!

The vanity was on order from Home Depot.  It took several weeks to come and they were suppose to contact me prior to delivery.  Well, that DID NOT happen.  One day I walked by the front door and saw that it was on the sidewalk laying on it's side!

It was about to rain, so I had to run out and try to wrestle it into the garage.  Once I did, I unwrapped it and it looked like it had been dropped from an airplane...broken into so many pieces.

I had to order another one and luckily it came in a much better condition!

I did not install a new bathtub or tile surround since it was in good condition still...

I ordered the art from an Etsy vendor in England.  They have a great pic that is 4 of QE2, but I decided that I wasn't ordering a large enough print to due that one justice.  

I ordered this hand towel and a hot pink one to swap out.  I discovered that Neiman Marcus is the best source for monogrammed towels.  They are both Ralph Lauren towels and they monogram for $3!  $3!  They said it would take a couple of weeks, but I received them in just a couple of days. 

This soap dispenser is another favorite find.  I got it from Bed Bath and Beyond.  It's a foaming soap holder.  It is very heavy weight.  I love foaming hand soap and always buy it from Bath and Body Works, but this helps it look nicer.

To help organize under the sink, I ordered some of these great and inexpensive plastic baskets from Target.  I use them in my office and love them.  They are great down here because they help organize everything and make access to everything easier.  I added some adhesive backed felt pads to the bottom of them so that they slide in and out easier and don't scratch the shelf.

 So that is my remodeled guest bath!  I've heard from people that it isn't their taste.  I get it!  And the good thing is, that it doesn't have to be anyone else's taste.   I love it.  I have also heard that I'm going to get sick of it.  That's the beauty of not using $1300 a roll wallpaper!  I can just paint over it!
