It was bound to happened.  I'd become the crazy eccentric old lady who lived on the street that "overdecorated" for each and every passing holiday.  {of course that is me}  The one who yelled at people to "stay off my lawn!".  {it isn't quite that bad, but close} We had just a ton of people dropping by and trying to sell things.  All.  The.  Time.  Anything you could imagine...from meat to Jesus.    Each time a stranger comes to the house, it is World War 3 with Lola, and I just couldn't take it anymore, so I made a sign.  I saw several on Etsy (many wouldnt' work for one reason or another), and even some alleged free printables on Pinterest (but the printables weren't really there anymore), so I set out and made my own.  I think it turned out pretty cute.   It cost less than $2 to make...   I bought the scrapbook paper at Hobby Lobby for cheap I bought the frame at The Dollar Tree for $1 I used a hanger and ribbon I alr

When I left the hotel in San Marcos a couple of weeks ago, I accidentally left behind a Vera Bradley Brush case that contained my beloved Trish McEvoy makeup brushes.  Of course, the maid did not turn them in to lost and found.  I've called a bunch of times, just to make sure they didn't turn up.  I'm sure some maid is very excited about the Vera bag that can be purchased on sale for less than $20, and likely has no idea of the gold mine that it contains.  My brushes weren't new, but because they cost a bunch, I took very good care of them, and they were in great shape.  So I had to head out upon returning home to buy some new brushes.  I was fortunate in a sense, because Nordstrom was having their Anniversary Sale (aka: one of my favorite holidays of the year!).  When I went to the store, the pre-sale had just started.  They had a pretty good brush set that they were selling for the sale.  It didn't contain the exact brushes that I had lost, but one of the brushe

My friend Abby and I had a plan to go outlet shopping.  Our plan had been to meet in College Station and stay at her "Aggie Cabin", and drive over to San Marcos to go outlet shopping.  Then at the last minute, after mapping out the trip, we decided our plan was stupid, so we tossed Plan A out the window and went with Plan B. Plan B consisted of meeting in Austin on Friday afternoon.  We ventured out to the LBJ Presidential Museum & Library.  Neither of us had ever been even though we have been to Austin countless times.  I loved Lady Bird's china!     There was a temporary exhibit there of photos from the presidential photographers, which was perfect, because photos are something Abby & I both love.  This one of "43" and Barney was definitely one of my favs...     At one point this great seal (above) is to your front as you walk down a staircase, and if you turn around you see the Library collection (below).  It's pretty cool

I've been AWOL from the blog.  Sometimes I go AWOL because there is absolutely nothing going on, and sometimes it's because I'm too busy to put together a post.  It's been more of the latter lately.  I'm going to try and catch up on the blog this week, but no promises.  I started summer school last night.  I always seem to bite off more than I can chew, and this summer, I agreed to teach 2 classes.  I'm teaching a 6:00 and an 8:10 class, so I go for 4 hours a night, 4 nights a week, for the next 5 weeks.  It's really not that bad.  The worst part is that I don't get home until about 10:30.  By the time you play with the dog, get ready for bed, and read for a bit, it's 12:30.  Then getting up for court the next morning is not so fun! This summer, a local farmer has planted sunflowers in several fields in the area.  I don't recall seeing these sunflower fields in years past. Of course, farm land is getting less plentiful since this is the fastest growing county in the country, so the fields are interspersed with retail establishments, housing additions, etc. This one was located right next to a Walmart, and it was drawing tons of people.  Some people, let's call them the county idiots, were traipsing through the fields trampling flowers and even cutting some.  Like I said, idiots.  It was such a problem, that it made the Dallas news.  Mostly though, people just stopped and enjoyed a good photo op. After several hot and dry days, the fields look pretty sad now, but for a bit of time, they made the daily drive around here quite happy.   Happy Friday!

I really do love decorating for the 4th of July, and luckily, it is one of the easiest holidays to decorate for.  The first step is to buy a bunch of flags and stick them all around.  I have them in all my potted plants, both in the front and back yard. For the most part, everything is the same as in previous years.  This year, I didn't have enough ambition to get out the ladder and staple gun and put the bunting above the door. Those 3 metal flags are a new addition, and I always love uncle sam being the greeter. The USA firecrackers are new also. For the inside, I made a new banner to go with the mantle decorations. I purchased flag fabric a couple of years back and never did anything with it. I was finally inspired by this garland that Pottery Barn was selling this year to make my own.
