Europe 2025 {Day 1~ Nuremberg/Nürnberg}

 On December 10th it was time to start my Europe 2025 adventure.  I had a 2:45 flight out of DFW that arrived at 6:50 a.m. on December 11th in Frankfurt, Germany.  My plan was to take a train to Nuremberg from the Airport's long distance train station.  This was one of the three train tickets I hadn't pre-booked (way cheaper to pre-book so I like to do that when I can) because I wasn't sure how quickly I would clear immigration, etc. at the airport.  It took forever to clear immigration because our flight got behind another plane and it seemed most all of those passengers had to present a lot of documentation to get through.

Once I was cleared through, I had to take a bus from Terminal 2 to Terminal 1 which is where the train station is located.  I got on the 8:35 train that arrived in Nuremberg at 11:00 a.m.

Luckily my room was ready early and I quickly showered and changed before heading out.  This wasn't my first time in Nuremberg.  When I was there in December 2023 the Documentation Center Nazi Party Grounds was under construction and set to reopen Summer of 2025.  I thought I would be able to visit this year, but then the opening got bumped to 2026 (so next time!).  There was still plenty to see that I didn't do my first visit, so I quickly grabbed a sausage on a bun for lunch at the Christmas market.  In Nuremberg they mostly serve 3 small bratwurst instead of one big one.
I took the subway to the Courtroom 600 where the Nuremberg trials were held.

Here are a few pics to show how it was during the trials

There is also a museum.  This is one of the boxes that carried evidence the Prosecution presented at the trial.
Robert Jackson was Prosecutor and of course future U.S. Supreme Court Justice
The courtroom is those 4 windows at the top.
With the exception of the Christmas Market, this trip I explored new areas of Nuremberg.  This is St. Lorenz church.

Frauenkirche at the Hauptmarkt

For reference my hotel (more on that at the end) is that building you see right behind the Schöner Brunnen in the Hauptmarkt where the Christkendlesmarkt is held.

I spent the rest of the day shopping around stores and the Christmas markets.  Of course I had to buy some  lebkuchen (spiced cookies-gingerbread like)!
These weird little nut/prune guys they sell in Nuremberg always make me laugh.

For dinner I had these fried potato pancakes.  I usually get these with sour cream, but it seems like most of the Germans get them with apple sauce.  I saw a lady sprinkling them with sugar and dipping in the apple sauce and it looked really good.  I may have to try that next time.

As always, I called it quits pretty early that first day.
I stayed at the Hotel Sorat again on this trip, because for the Christmas Market, the location is perfect.
This is the side where my room was and actually where the entrance to the hotel is.

That's the end of day one and my time in Nuremberg.  The next morning I had an early train to my next location.

Europe 2024 {Day 10 ~ Munich, Germany}

On December 22nd, I departed Salzburg train station at 8:00 and arrived in Munich at 9:40.  The station is under construction and a real mess!  I finally made my way out and found it was really raining.  I made my way to a taxi and took it to my hotel.  My hotel room wasn't ready but they kept my bags for me and I headed out.   I have been to Munich a couple of times and wanted to see a couple of things I haven't had a chance to do before.  I planned to to go to the Nazi Documentation Center first since it was raining, but when I looked it up on my phone to double check the hours, I learned they had just closed for renovations.  So rain or not, I was going to have to head out to Nymphemburg Palace.  I took the tram out and then walked to the palace. I don't know why, but I didn't take many pictures on the inside. I also bought a ticket to the Royal Stables Museum which houses lots of coaches. I really found all the sleighs to be a sight to see, bu...
